Marcus Georges-Hunt (196-F-94, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Pensack Sports) was taking a nap Sunday afternoon when he received a call from his agent, Adam Pensack. What a wake-up call it was.

Pensack informed Georges-Hunt that his contract, non-guaranteed at the start of the season, became guaranteed for the remainder of the season by virtue of Georges-Hunt remaining on the Timberwolves' roster through Sunday's deadline.

'It was a great moment,' Georges-Hunt said. 'People say I don't really show emotions or what not, but to hear that, it was a great feeling.'

After that call was complete, Georges-Hunt picked up the phone again to call his mother and other close family.

'It shows that everything I've been doing since I got here is all paying off,' he said. 'Just have to continue to do it and get better and help this team the best way I can.'

Georges-Hunt didn't appear to be a lock to even make the team out of training camp, but his role continues to grow. After opening the season glued to the bench, the wing has played in 22 games. Coach Tom Thibodeau said he has liked Georges-Hunt's approach, attitude and readiness to play.

'There's a defensive component to him; he's not afraid,' Thibodeau said. 'He's got toughness, and we need toughness. Whether he's playing or not playing, he's adding to our team.'

Georges-Hunt said he was never thinking about Sunday's deadline; his plan to stick was pretty simple.

'You really just try to go out each day and try to give it your all,' he said. 'Focus on what you can control, and that's just getting better each day and when it's time to go out and play and perform in practice, you just give it all you've got. Because at the end of the day, you don't really control that type of stuff.'

A popular player in the locker room, Georges-Hunt was asked if he hopes to continue to see his minutes increase.

'You never know what to expect, just have to always be ready to play,' he said.

Seton Hall senior goes from utter despair to chance at redemption - 6 days ago
At the time he suffered his left ankle injury, and for several days afterward, Desi Rodriguez (198-F-96) thought his Seton Hall career was over. That he would have to watch the rest of his senior season from the sideline. That his March would be full of regret. It was a helpless feeling. 'I was depressed,' the Bronx native said Monday after practice. 'I was angry and sad at the same time. That day, [almost] three weeks ago, I didn't think I was going to be back on the floor [this year].'   [read more]

NCAA MARCH MADNESS WHO IS IN? Virgin Islands national team member Justin Gray (198-F-95), a fixture in Texas Tech's starting lineup the past two years, is trying to become the second member of his immediate family to reach a Sweet 16.
