Here is the weekly review of the top performing Uruguayan players, who play currently abroad.


Esteban Batista

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Esteban Batista (208-83, agency: Duran International). He was the major contributor in a 2-point Anadolu Efes' victory against the closely-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (21-9) 69-67 in a derby game in the Turkish TBL in Sunday night's game. Batista had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 12 rebounds in 25 minutes on the court. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (24-6) is placed third in the TBL. The Regular Season already ended. This year Batista averages: 8.3ppg, 5.1rpg, 2FGP: 69.4%(84-121) and FT: 71.1% in the 28 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Nicolas Mazzarino (181-75, agency: Players Group). Mazzarino led Bennet Cantu to a 1-point victory against the 15th-ranked Angelico Biella (12-18) 77-76 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. He scored 14 points and added 4 passes. Bennet Cantu (20-10) is placed second in the SerieA. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Mazzarino's seventh season with the team. Mazzarino's overall stats this year are: 10.0ppg, 2.1rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 51.6%, 3FGP: 44.2% and FT: 87.5%. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and Italian. Despite Mazzarino played previously for the Italian national team, he played also for the Uruguayan national team in 2008.

   #3. The Uruguayan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Martin Osimani (194-81, college: Duquesne). Osimani led Obras to a victory over the tenth-ranked Regatas Corrientes (15-15) crushing them 94-59 in the Argentinian LigaA on Sunday night. He was MVP of the game. Osimani recorded 18 points and added 5 assists in 21 minutes. Obras Sanitarias Buenos Aires (20-10) is placed third in the LigaA. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. This year Osimani's overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 43.0%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 77.8% in the 41 games. Despite he played previously for the Italian national team, Osimani is currently a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #4. Guard Leandro Garcia Morales (186-80, college: Texas A&M), who plays in the Venezuelan LPB could not help Cocodrilos (1-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Cocodrilos was edged 76-75 at home by the lower-ranked Guaiqueries (#3) in the Group B. Garcia Morales was the top scorer with 19 points. Garcia Morales has relatively good stats this season: 13.0ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Italian and Uruguayan. Despite Garcia Morales played previously for the Italian national team, he is currently in the Uruguayan national team roster.

   #5. Former international guard Jayson Granger (186-89) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Blusens Monbus (11-21) 79-62 in the Spanish ACB last Wednesday. He recorded 14 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in 23 minutes. Asefa Estudiantes Madrid (9-22) is placed second from the bottom (#17) in the ACB. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Granger is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in Asefa Estudiantes' roster. Granger is ranked sixth on the list of the best passers in the league with 3.9apg. This year he also averages: 10.4ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.4spg in the 30 games. Granger has both Uruguayan and Italian nationalities. Worth to mention Granger played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Despite he played previously for the Italian national team, Granger is currently in the Uruguayan national team roster.

Emilio Taboada

   #6. Forward Emilio Taboada (191-82) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Panteras (9-27) crushing them 94-67 in the Venezuelan LPB on Saturday night. He recorded 14 points and had 3 steals. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group B. Bucaneros de La Guaira (1-0) is placed first. It was his team's first victory after four consecutive loses. This season Taboada has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.8apg. Despite he played previously for the Italian national team, Taboada is also a former international player as he played for the Uruguayan senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former U21 international point guard Federico Bavosi (184-81) was the main contributor in a River Andorra's victory against one of league's weakest teams Tenerife (7-17) 78-68 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Friday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Bavosi scored 14 points, grabbed 6 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls in 31 minutes. B.C. River Andorra (20-10) is placed in the LEB Silver. The Regular Season already ended. It's Bavosi's first season with the team. Bavosi is currently first on the list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has very reliable stats this year: 10.4ppg, 3.1rpg, 5.8apg and 1.7spg in the 24 games. Despite Bavosi played previously for the Italian national team, he is currently in the Uruguayan U21 national team roster.
