Here is the weekly review of the top performing Uruguayan players, who play currently abroad.


Mathias Calfani

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Mathias Calfani (204-92, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He was the major contributor in a San Lorenzo's victory against the seventh-ranked Libertad Sunchales (13-15) crushing them 104-73 in the Argentinian LigaA in Wednesday night's game. Calfani scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 23 minutes on the court. San Lorenzo de Almagra (22-7) is placed first in Sur group. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Calfani has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 64.2%(95-148), 3FGP: 32.4% and FT: 64.5% in 29 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Jayson Granger (189-89, currently plays in Euroleague). He contributed to an Anadolu Efes' victory against the closely-ranked Darussafaka (10-10) 93-81 in a derby game in the Euroleague last Wednesday. Granger recorded 9 points and added 5 assists. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (9-11) is placed ninth in group A. This season Granger averages: 8.7ppg, 2.4rpg, 3.8apg, 2FGP: 43.8% and FT: 84.4%. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and Italian. Worth to mention Granger played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Granger played for the Uruguayan national team in 2015.

   #3. The Uruguayan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Bruno Fitipaldo (183-91, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Turkey). He contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Demir IBB (6-10) 90-71 in the Turkish BSL on Sunday night. Fitipaldo scored 8 points and added 3 assists in 22 minutes. Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (12-3) is placed second in the BSL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Fitipaldo's overall stats are: 8.0ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 66.7%, 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 75.0% in three games. He is also a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #4. An experienced power forward Esteban Batista (208-83, agency: Duran International, currently plays in China) could not help North Control (7-23) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Batista's good performance North Control was defeated 115-109 on the road by the much higher-ranked Jiangsu Dragons (#10). He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 12 rebounds. Batista also added 4 assists. Batista has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 13.0rpg, 2.4apg and 1.5spg. Batista is another player who holds two passports: Uruguayan and Spanish. He is also Uruguayan national team player.

Former international point guard Santiago Vidal (180-89, another player represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina) managed to help Regatas Corrientes in a victory against the sixth-ranked Argentino (14-14) 100-83 in the Argentinian LigaA last Friday. Vidal scored 5 points and added 4 assists in 19 minutes. Regatas Corrientes (17-11) is placed third in Norte group. This year Vidal's total stats are: 4.5ppg, 2.2rpg and 3.0apg in 26 games. He used to play for the Uruguayan national team two years ago.

   #6. Forward Maximiliano Sole (198-88, another player represented by Duran International, currently plays in Spain) led Real Madrid II to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked Torrelodones (3-12) 87-68 in a derby game in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in 25 minutes. Real Madrid II (12-5) is placed fourth in Group B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Sole's first season with the team. This year Sole has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 8.4rpg, 2.9apg and 1.8spg in 17 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Uruguayan senior team two years ago.

   #7. Former U21 international forward Martin Volf (198-80, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to a BK Loko Plzen's victory against the seventh-ranked USK Praha B (6-9) 69-65 in the Czech Republic 1Liga (second division) on Friday night. Volf recorded 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 12 minutes. BK Lokomotiva Plzen (7-8) is placed fifth in Group A. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Volf has averaged so far 9.7ppg and 2.3rpg in three games. He used to play for the Uruguayan U21 national team seventeen years ago.

   #1. Experienced Brad Kanis (218-C-83, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Grand Canyon, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Quart's victory against the 12th-ranked Cerdalyola (4-10) crushing them 105-61 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. Kanis recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. CB Quart-Germans Cruz (12-2) is placed first in Group C-B. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. This season Kanis has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg and 4.8rpg. He is a naturalized American. Kanis used to play for Atletico Welcome in Uruguayan league.

   #2. Phillip Holm (175-PG-80, currently plays in Spain) could not help CAM E.Soler (9-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Holm's good performance the first-placed CAM E.Soler (9-5) was defeated 106-99 at home by the lower-ranked Cazorla (#4) in the Group D-A. He scored 12 points. The Regular Season already ended. Holm has averaged so far 6.1ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.4apg. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and German.

   #3. Facundo Medina (190-G-94, currently plays in Argentina) managed to help Tomas de Rocamora to win against the leader Olimpo (14-7) 75-72 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) in Thursday night's game. Medina scored only 2 points. Tomas de Rocamora (10-9) is placed fifth in Center South group. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Medina has reliable stats this season: 11.3ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.5apg.

Winsome Frazier (193-G-82, college: Mississippi St., agency: Interperformances) netted 22 points for the winner while Marvin Phillips (201-F-83, college: Claflin) added 19 points and 13 rebounds. Newly promoted Yes All Gorgan (Superleague) landed 30-year old American center Tyronne McNeal (211-120kg-87, college: Miami Dade CC). He played in the summer at Marne in Uruguayan Metropolitan. In 14 games he averaged impressive 21.9ppg, 11.9rpg (#3 in the league), 2.2apg, 1.2spg and 1.2bpg. Among other achievements McNeal's team won Slovakian Cup in 2014.
