Here is the weekly review of the top performing Uruguayan players, who play currently abroad.


Jayson Granger

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Jayson Granger (189-89, currently plays in Euroleague). Granger led his Turkish team Anadolu Efes to a victory over the 14th-ranked Maccabi T-A (9-17) 92-87 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Granger scored 22 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 27 minutes on the court. Anadolu Efes Istanbul (14-12) is placed eighth in the Euroleague. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Granger averages: 9.0ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.8apg, 2FGP: 45.1%, 3FGP: 32.1% and FT: 76.1% in 26 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and Italian. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Granger played for the Uruguayan senior national team two years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Mathias Calfani (204-92, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked La Union (9-24) crushing them 88-64 in the Argentinian LigaA last Saturday. Calfani scored 12 points, grabbed 6 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 2 shots. San Lorenzo de Almagra (27-12) is placed first in Sur group. It's Calfani's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 10.0ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.8apg, 1.2bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 63.0%(102-162), 3FGP: 33.8% and FT: 64.8%. Calfani is in the roster of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #3. The Uruguayan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Bruno Fitipaldo (183-91, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Euroleague). He contributed to Galatasaray's surprising victory against the third-ranked Olympiacos (18-8) 80-71 in the Euroleague on Friday night. Fitipaldo scored 6 points in only 7 minutes. Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (9-17) is placed 13th in the Euroleague. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Fitipaldo's overall stats are: 6.4ppg, 2.8apg, 2FGP: 54.5%, 3FGP: 44.1% in 12 games. He is also a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

Point guard Santiago Vidal (180-89, another player represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina) managed to help Regatas Corrientes to win against the sixth-ranked Argentino (19-21) 87-84 in the Argentinian LigaA in Saturday night's game. Vidal scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Regatas Corrientes (24-14) is placed third in Norte group. Vidal's total stats this season are: 4.6ppg, 2.1rpg and 3.1apg. He used to play for the Uruguayan national team back in 2015.

   #5. An experienced former U21 international forward Martin Volf (198-80, currently plays in Czech Republic) was the main contributor in a BK Loko Plzen's victory against the fifth-ranked Olomouc Bbal (3-5) 76-67 in the Czech Republic 1Liga (second division) on Friday night. He was the best player in that game. Volf recorded 22 points. BK Lokomotiva Plzen (5-3) is placed second in Places 7-12 group. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be important. Volf has relatively good stats this season: 12.2ppg and 2.9rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Uruguayan and Czech Republic. Volf used to play for the Uruguayan U21 national team seventeen years ago.

   #6. Forward Maximiliano Sole (198-88, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in a Real Madrid II's victory against the eighth-ranked CBA Gran Canaria B (14-10) 70-51 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. Real Madrid II (18-6) is placed third in Group B. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. This year Sole has relatively solid stats: 11.7ppg, 8.4rpg, 2.5apg and 1.6spg in 24 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Uruguayan senior team two years ago.

   #1. Experienced Brad Kanis (218-C-83, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Grand Canyon, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Quart's victory against the seventh-ranked Sant Adria (10-11) crushing them 88-66 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Kanis scored 16 points and blocked 3 blocks in a mere 18 minutes. CB Quart-Germans Cruz (15-5) is placed third in Group C-B. Kanis has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg and 5.3rpg in 17 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Kanis used to play for Atletico Welcome in Uruguayan league.

   #2. Phillip Holm (175-PG-80, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Ciudad Autonoma de Melilla Enrique Soler to win against the fourth-ranked ULB OH!TELS (6-6) crushing them 71-50 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Holm scored 5 points. Ciudad Autonoma de Melilla Enrique Soler (8-4) is placed second in Group D Clasif. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Holm's total stats this season are: 6.1ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.2apg. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and German.

American Center Paul Harrison (203-C-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Sayago, receiving a Latinbasket.com Ascenso Player of the Week award for round 8. The 27-year old player was the main contributor (37 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Atenas (#2, 6-2) 87-84. Metropolitan Round 8: Sayago defeats Atenas in the closest game of the week - 1 day ago
There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. The most exciting game of round 8 in the Ascenso took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-ranked Atenas (6-2) to top-ranked Sayago (7-0) 87-84 in the game for the first place. Paul Harrison (203-C-89, college: N.Greenville) scored a three points shot with three seconds to play leading Sayago to beat atenas 87-84 for the Metro league 8th round. Sayago is the leader for the tournament with a 7-0 record followed by Atenas with a 6-2 record. Harrison finished with 37 points, 8 rebounds and 3 asssits, while Anthony Danridge (196-F-86, college: N.Mexico) scored 15 points for Attenas and added 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
