wins fifth LPB championship - Jun 10, 2010
Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Cocodrilos de Caracas won its
fifth LPB championship in an over-time thriller as hosts against Marinos
de Anzoategui at Naciones Unidas Park of Caracas, 111-102, in a match in
which Uruguayan
Leandro Garcia Morales (186-G-80) scored 33 points and Dominican
center Jack Michael Martinez was awarded MVP Honors.
The previous titles for Caracas came in 1974, 1992, 2000 and 2008, while
Marinos, the best team of the last decade with 5 titles in 10 seasons,
were unable to defend their 2009 championship title this time against
the same team they had defeated one year ago. For head coach
Nestor Salazar , who was coaching in his sixth straight LPB Finals
series, it's his second championship title.

LPB 2010 - All-Stars Game: Criollos take down

Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Liga Profesional de
Baloncesto (LPB) celebrated the 33rd edition of the All-Star Game at
Naciones Unidas Park of Caracas and the Venezuelan Stars were able to
take down the Foreign Stars, 136-123, to get back at the defeat suffered
back in 2009 in Maracay, while also extending the good decade of team
Criollos over Importados, as they've won 7 of the last 10 contests.
The players were split into two teams, one of the Venezuelan Stars named
Criollos and one of the Foreign Stars, named Importados. Criollos were
coached by
Nestor Salazar , of Cocodrilos de Caracas, while Importados were
coached by
Sergio Rouco , of Marinos de Anzoategui.
Francisco Centeno (201-G/F-85), of Gaiteros del Zulia, was elected
MVP of the match.
Franco&Oscarcito made a musical appearance.
Evan Brock (204-F-84) won the Dunks Contest,
Gregory Vargas won the Skills Contest and
David Reichel won the Three-Point Shots Challenge.

Baloncesto (LPB) proudly introduced Liga Especial (LEB) as a secondary
young talent's development league for the 2010 season and this league,
which uses the same name of the historic Liga Especial that was played
between 1974 and 1992 and gave birth to Venezuela's pro basketball, has
also celebrated its first All-Star Game, the Future All-Stars Game, at
Naciones Unidas Park of Caracas.
The players were split into two teams, one of the Eastern Conference
named Orientales and one of the Western Conference, named Occidentales.
Orientales were coached by
Ibsen Castrillo, of Saurios de Caracas, while Occidentales was
coached by
Manuel Alfonso, of Guardianes de Lara.
Darwin Matos, of Saurios de Caracas, was elected MVP of the match.
LPB announces rosters for the 2010 All-Star
Game and the first LEB All-Future Stars Game

Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- The main board of Liga
Profesional de Baloncesto announced the rosters for both the 2010 LPB
All-Star Game, reaching its 33rd edition and the first edition of LEB's
All-Future Stars Game. Both matches will be played at Naciones Unidas
Park of Caracas on April 19th.
The LPB All-Star Game involves the Venezuelan Stars and the Imported
Stars.
Nestor Salazar, of Cocodrilos de Caracas, will coach the Venezuelan
team and
Sergio Rouco, of Marinos de Anzoategui, will take charge of the
Imported team.
The LEB's All-Future Star Game, involves a team from the West-Central
Conference against a team of the East-Central Conference. The first team
will be coached by
Manuel Alfonso, of Guardianes de Lara and the second team will be
coached by
Ibsen Castrillo, of Saurios de Caracas
