The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women will be played in Neiva, Colombia. The President and the Secretary General of FIBA Americas signed a contract with the Governor of the Department of Huila, Mr. Luis Jorge Sanchez Garcia and the President of the Colombian Basketball Federation, Mr. Jairo Romero.
This tournament qualifies the best team to the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the teams that finish from second to fourth place to the FIBA World Qualifying Tournament that will be played prior to the Olympics.
The venue for the most prestigious women's event in America will be Coliseum lvaro Snchez Silva, the same that hosted the 2010 South American Championship.
The Governor of the Department of Huila thanked FIBA Americas for the trust given to the organization of this event to be played in Neiva, capital of Huila which is 200 kilometers south of Bogota.
FIBA Americas President and Vice-President of FIBA, Horacio Muratore, said that the Federation and the government earned this tournament because of the great organization shown in the South American Championship for Men.
The FIBA Americas Secretary General, Alberto Garcia, explained the new format of the tournament that will have ten countries for the first time and it will be like that the rest of the way. The objective is to increase the number of teams to give incentive to practice women's basketball in America.
This tournament, which is scheduled from September 24 until October 1, will have the participation of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica, Mxico, Paraguay and Puerto Rico. There will be two groups of five teams each that will play against each other in the group and the two top teams reach the semifinals and finals. The rest of the teams in the group end their participation in the tournament.
The United States of America, by winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic, qualified directly to the Olympics.
The tournament draw will be held at the end of February or at the beginning of March 2011.

Meanwhle, Perez added 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 16 minutes coming off the bench. Both players are former players of Venezuela's National Team and former Distrito Capital State stars.
Weatherford finished with a 24-5 overall record. They had defeated Odessa (95-64) and New Mexico JC (77-71) to get to the Finals. Blanco averages 9.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 23 games according to the last updated stats info of the NJCAA site. Meanwhile, Perez averages 5.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in 15 games.

Silva was one of the bright spots for her team, as she managed to support them with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals in 43 minutes of action, as she netted 4 of 16 two-point shots, 1 of 4 three-pointers and 3 of 4 free throws.
The Venezuelan young talent was named to the All-Star Team of the short tournament and will now take on the Regional Tournament. The first game will be on March 15th against Minnesota State. Silva averages 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in 29 games, 28 as a starter.

Then, she lost against Fort Hays State (L 81-52) despites finishing up with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals.
Her team was also taken down by Washburn (L 77-65) on November 24th. She had her first double double of the season with 12 points, 12 assists and adding 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a block.
In her first conference game of the regular season, the Golden Suns defeated Southern Nazarene, 81-61. Silva supported her team with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
After these 4 games, Silva is averaging 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game.
