LPB Semifinals, Game 7: Trotamundos - Guaiqueries 76-71 (4-3)
Crucial Game Seven of the LPB Semifinals between Trotamundos and Guaiqueries was played last night. The home squad celebrated 76-71 victory and joined Marinos in the Finals. It will be another best-of-seven series and first game is scheduled for tomorrow. Guaiqueries trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 25-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-76 at the end of the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Guaiqueries helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for David Cubillan (183-87, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 5 assists. Rafael Perez (193-82, agency: Paris Global Sports) helped adding 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures. At the losing side Richard Lugo (209-73, college: St.Francis, NY) responded with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 blocks and Antoine Wright (201-84, college: Texas A&M) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Guaiqueries' coach Carlos Mercado rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Marinos will have a home court advantage in the Finals. They will host first two games on May 22 and 23. After that, Trotamundos will be the host of Game Three, Four and *Five (if necessary). If the series go to Game Six and Seven, they will be played at Marinos' home court.
LPB top team - Marinos (38-14) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat tenth ranked Toros (18-34) in Puerto La Cruz 84-71. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 49-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Marinos outrebounded Toros 46-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Toros' players. It was a great evening for Dutch center Dan Gadzuric (211-78, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. The former international swingman Oscar Torres (198-76, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. American forward Anthony Johnson (203-88, college: Fairfield) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marinos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 38-14 record. Toros lost eighth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 34 lost games. Marinos are looking forward to face Panteras (#9) in Caracas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toros will play on the road against Guaiqueries in Porlamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Second ranked Cocodrilos (35-16) crushed at home 6th ranked Guaros (24-28) by 17 points 102-85, which is the biggest margin this round. It was a quality performance for international power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) who led the winners and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Kristoffer Lang accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. Dominican forward Jack Michael Martinez (201-81) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for Guaros in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cocodrilos maintains second place with 35-16 record having four points less than leader Marinos. Guaros lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 28 games lost. They share it with Trotamundos. Cocodrilos will play against Gigantes (#5) in Puerto Ordaz in the next round. Guaros will play on the road against Bucaneros in La Guaira and hope to get back on the winning track.
In the last two games of round 47 Panteras lost to Guaiqueries on the opponent's court 85-92. Bucaneros managed to outperform Gigantes in a home game 90-82. The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points and 14 rebounds by Elys Guzman of Panteras.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Porlamar where 8th ranked Panteras (19-33) were defeated by ninth ranked Guaiqueries (20-31) 92-85. It was a great shooting night for Guaiqueries especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jimmy Baxter (198-80, college: S.Florida, agency: Three Eye Sports) who led the winners and scored 27 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Guaiqueries' coach Carlos Mercado allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Dominican power forward Elys Guzman (206-82, college: Bemidji St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and the former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) added 19 points respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Guaiqueries moved-up to eighth place. Panteras at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 33 games lost. Everything could happen in La Guaira at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Bucaneros and 5th ranked Gigantes had identical 26-24 record. This time Bucaneros used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Puerto Ordaz 90-82. Bucaneros (27-24) moved-up to third place. Gigantes at the other side keep the fifth position with 25 games lost. Bucaneros will play against Guaros (#7) in Barquisimeto in the next round. Gigantes will play on the road against the league's second-placed Cocodrilos in Caracas and hope to get back on the winning track.

A very good season in his career as he was voted to Latinbasket.com Uruguay LUB All-Imports Team. Among other achievements Pettigrew's college team won Sun Belt Tournament for two years in a row (2008 and 2009). He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2011 and it will be his second season in pro basketball.

Venezuelan-American, 8 years young and 5 foot tall Jhan Lucena Harp was unstoppable; helping his Doral Timberwolves team mates win this first championship game.
