Venezuela registered the first win at the home Super 4 Cup in Caracas. The hosts snatched a narrow home win over Mexico in the opener. Greivis Vasquez (198-PG-87, agency: Interperformances, college: Maryland) scored 41 points to pace impressive effort. Mexico led by a single point 17:16 after ten minutes. The hosts however took over in the second quarter. Venezuela exploded with 26 points to establish a 5-point halftime lead 42:37. Venezuela stretched the lead in the third term. The home team boosted the gap at 10-point mark before the final period. Mexico did not surrender as they went on a determined comeback effort. Hector Hernandez (206-F-85, college: Fresno St.) drilled a three-pointer to put the visitors within a single point 83:84 with 33 seconds left in regulation. But Greivis Vasquez sank two free throws late in regulation and sealed the victory for the hosts. Heissler Guillent (186-PG-86, agency: Paris Global Sports) provided 14 points, while Jose Juan Bravo (202-C-86) added 11 points and 7 boards in the win. Hector Hernandez answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Mexico. Paul Stoll (178-PG-85) netted 16 points in the loss.

Frayles de Guasave (CIBACOPA) strengthened their roster with addition of 24-year old American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-100kg-89, college: W.Kentucky). A very good season in his career as he was voted to Latinbasket.com Uruguay LUB All-Imports Team. Among other achievements Pettigrew's college team won Sun Belt Tournament for two years in a row (2008 and 2009). He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2011 and it will be his second season in pro basketball.

Venezuelan-American, 8 years young and 5 foot tall Jhan Lucena Harp was unstoppable; helping his Doral Timberwolves team mates win this first championship game. The previous (2011) summer Battle was tested by Marinos. In 2003 Battle was drafted by Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs (USBL) in third round (22nd overall). The former Drexel University standoutis in his tenth season in pro basketball. The list of the past achievements is quite long as Battle was voted Eurobasket.com All-Spanish LEB Gold Player of the Year back in 2009. He is quite experienced player. Battle has played also professionally in France, Mexico (Santos), Turkey (Goztepe), Spain (Palma and Blancos de Rueda).
