Tiburones de Vargas advanced to the semifinals of the South American League 2012. The team from Venezuela overcame Sao Jose Dos Campos for 2-0 record in Group D. Brazilian side fell at 0-2 record in the group.
Tiburones de Vargas grabbed 16-14 lead after the first period and added 28-20 in the second quarter. Both teams nailed 25 points each in the third stanza and then Sao Jose Dos Campos did all their best to catch up with the hosts. They managed to win the last period 23-19, however it was not enough to win the game.
Rafael Guevara (194-F-79) top-scored for the winners with 25 points and Windi Graterol (204-C-86) notched 16. Mijares Yumerving scored 11, while Suero Angel and Alejandro Barrios (205-C-79) added 10 each. Alvaro Calvo (203-G/F-83, agency: Dynamics Global Management) answered with 21 points in the losing effort and Murilo Becker (210-C/F-83) notched 18. Fulvio de Assis (187-G-81) delivered 17, whilst Andre Laws (186-G-80, college: San Diego) posted 11.

American Point guard Isaiah Swann (188-PG-85) had a great game in the last round for Marinos, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19. The 31-year old player was the main contributor (47 points and five assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass Gaiteros (#5, 7-23) with 61-point margin 120-59. Here is the weekly review of the top performing Venezuelan players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an experienced international guard John Cox (194-81, agency: Pensack Sports). He could not help Pau-Lacq-Orthez (22-12) in their last game. Despite Cox's very good performance Pau-Lacq-Orthez was edged 85-82 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#13) JDA Dijon.    [read more]

Vaqueros of Bayamon inks the swingman D.J. Stephens(198-G/F-90, college: Memphis). Stephens is know for his huge vertical jump and explosiveness. He played in DLeague and won the Slam Dunk contest. With his athleticism he can rebound, score, block shots and play multiple positions. He arrive in a crucial moment for Vaqueros of Bayamon that are fighting for one of the eight spots for the playoffs.
