Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Venezuelan PF Luis Bethelmy (200-F/C-86), of Halcones Rojos de Veracruz and Venezuelan PG Gregory Vargas (180-PG-86), of Halcones UV de Xalapa, continue their winning ways in Mexico's 2012-2013 edition of LNBP, while assistant coach Ronald Guillen , working for Soles de Mexicali, is in the midst of a spectacular winning streak, with 15 straight W's.

Guillen is working aside head coach Ivan Deniz for Mexicali and they've won 15 straight games after a 1-4 start in the season, working their way up to a 16-4 record prior to the All-Star break. They've also worked together in Venezuela's LPB up until 2011 for Trotamundos de Carabobo. Since then, the Blue Express chose to hire Puerto Rican Julio Toro and have now announced another Puerto Rican, Manolo Cintron, for LPB 2013.

Meanwhile, Luis Bethelmy played 25 minutes and finished up with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, 3 turnovers and 3 fouls, in a victory over Correcaminos UAT Victoria, 90-79, in Matchday 20. Veracruz enjoyed good performances by Mike Mitchell (181-PG-83) with 13 points, Leroy Davis (200-F-81) with 12 points, Francisco Cruz (190-G-89) with 11 points, Puerto Rican Filiberto Rivera (190-PG-82) with 10 and Noe Alonzo (200-F-83) with 10. For Victoria, Rodney Alexander (201-F-87) netted 26 points, Myron Allen (182-PG-79) added 24 and Lorenzo Keeler (188-G-85) 10 more.

Bethelmy averages 16.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game after 20 regular season games.

Gregory Vargas played 26 minutes and was able to score 11 points and add 2 rebounds, 4 assists, a turnover and a foul for Xalapa in a win over Huracanes de Tampico, 84-70. Vargas got help from Franco Harris (183-G-83) with 20 points, LeRoy Hickerson (196-G-82) with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists, Orlando Mendez-Valdez (185-G-86) with 15 points and Victor Mariscal (198-F-72) with 12 points and 5 steals. For Tampico, Donald Little (211-C-78) scored 25 points and Marcus Morrison (198-G/F-84) came up with 17 points and 8 boards.

Vargas averages 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in 18 regular season games so far.

Guaros ink Jordan Hamilton, ex Tofas - 10 hours ago

Guaros de Lara (LPB) agreed terms with 26-year old American swingman Jordan Hamilton (201-103kg-90, college: Texas). He already started the season at Tofas in Turkish BSL league, but left the team few days ago. In only one game he recorded just 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists this season. The last season Hamilton played at Bucaneros where in 8 LPB games he had very impressive stats: 20.3ppg, 6.0rpg, 4.6apg and 1.4spg. Guaros ink Jerry Johnson, ex Astana - 12 days ago

Guaros de Lara (LPB) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Kazakhstani international point guard Jerry Johnson (182-76kg-82, college: Rider, agency: BeoBasket). He is a dual citizen owning also American passport. Johnson has played for the last five seasons at BK Astana in Kazakhstan D1 league. Salta Basket adds Matthews to their roster - 12 days ago

Salta Basket (TNA) added to their roster 33-year old American (has also Venezuela passport) small forward Clarence Matthews (201-112kg-83, college: Tennessee State). He played last summer at Atletico Tabare in Uruguayan Ascenso. In 14 games he was second best scorer with impressive 23.8ppg and had 12.4rpg (#5 in the league), 1.9apg, 1.6spg and 1.1bpg.
