Flamengo ensured the third straight win at the semifinal stage of 2012 South American League. They knocked down Tiburones de Vargas to clinch the top position in Group E. Olivinha Rodriguez (202-F-83) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winners.
Flamengo erupted for 28 points in the opening quarter to spur ahead. They secured a 9-point lead at the interval 48:39. Flamengo stretched the gap in the third term. The Rio de Janeiro side registered a comfortable 14-point advantage at the final intermission. The teams traded baskets throughout the final period as Flamengo cruised to the victory. Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84) netted 19 points, while Kojo Mensah (185-PG-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Duquesne) added 14 points for Flamengo. Tiburones answered with 26 points from Alejandro Barrios (205-C-79). Axiers Sucre (200-F-78) provided 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Marinos de Anzoategui (LPB) tabbed experienced 34-year old Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-110kg-83, college: Chicago State, agency: BeoBasket). He played recently at Vaqueros de Bayamon in Puerto Rican BSN league. In 9 games he averaged impressive 16.9ppg, 10.3rpg, 4.2apg, 1.1spg and 1.1bpg this season. American Forward Ricardo Powell (199-F-83) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Trotamundos, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 13. The 33-year old player was the main contributor (24 points, nine rebounds and five assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Guaros (#3, 12-10) 84-79. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Guaiqueries as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Guaiqueries defeated 4th placed Marinos in Porlamar 85-77.
