Flamengo ensured the third straight win at the semifinal stage of 2012 South American League. They knocked down Tiburones de Vargas to clinch the top position in Group E. Olivinha Rodriguez (202-F-83) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winners.
Flamengo erupted for 28 points in the opening quarter to spur ahead. They secured a 9-point lead at the interval 48:39. Flamengo stretched the gap in the third term. The Rio de Janeiro side registered a comfortable 14-point advantage at the final intermission. The teams traded baskets throughout the final period as Flamengo cruised to the victory. Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84) netted 19 points, while Kojo Mensah (185-PG-85, agency: Interperformances, college: Duquesne) added 14 points for Flamengo. Tiburones answered with 26 points from Alejandro Barrios (205-C-79). Axiers Sucre (200-F-78) provided 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Defending champion Cocodrilos de Caracas (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old former Venezuelan international forward Lenin Lopez (198-91). It is actually his comeback to Caracas as he has played here before. He played recently at Club Deportes Puente Alto in Chilean Liga Nacional. Guaiqueries de Margarita (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American center Kentrell Gransberry (206-85, college: S.Florida). He played recently at Academia in Colombian Liga de las Americas. In three games he recorded very impressive stats: 17.3ppg and 9.3rpg this season. John Flowers gets MVP of the Week award for Venezuelan LPB - 3 days ago
American John Flowers (200-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's leader Cocodrilos and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 27-year old forward had the game-high 28 points adding six rebounds and four assists for Cocodrilos in his team's victory, helping them to beat Gigantes (#2, 4-2) 91-81.
