Oscar Torres
Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Venezuelan forward Oscar Torres (198-F/G-76), a former NBA player and current starting small forward for Marinos de Anzoategui in his country's main pro league, LPB, told FIBA.com that he stands by his decision of retiring from the Senior National Team and that he's ruled out a possible comeback for the upcoming FIBA Americas World Cup Qualy Championship, to be played in Caracas later this year.

"I want people to understand that this is the time for me to retire", he said to local media. "It's not that I don't want to play, it's just that I have represented my country for so many years. There is talent that needs to be exploited and to work with and we have to focus on making those youngsters grow" added the 36 year-old former player of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, who also played in leagues of Italy, Russia and Turkey.

"Many people tell me that I can still play, but I already gave the best years of my career to the national team", said Torres, who's doing something similar to what PG Diego Guevara (184-G-77) did a few years ago, when he decided to cut ties with the NT in order to spend more time with his family in the United States during the offseason.

"I want to be healthy all year and not suffer any type of injury, and give what everyone is expecting of me", he commented when asked about his upcoming challenge with Marinos in LPB 2013.
