Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Venezuela's top basketball league, Liga Profesional de Baloncesto (LPB), is taking the final steps in its preseason phase and will start next January 25th with 10 teams. Guaiqueries de Margarita (LPB) added to their roster 30-year old Jamaican ex-international point guard Akeem Scott (186-82kg-83, college: High Point). He just played at Pioneros in Mexican LNBP. In 42 games he recorded 12.4ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.2apg and 1.4spg this season. The last season Scott played at Mornar Bar (1A) in Montenegrin league. A very spectacular season in his career as he was selected Eurobasket.com All-Montenegrin League Import Player of the Year. Scott also played 12 games in Balkan League where he averaged impressive 16.1ppg, 3.6rpg, 2.2apg and 2.4spg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Balkan League Honorable Mention. The previous (2011) summer Scott played at Geneva in U.S. semi-pro league Eurobasket S.League. In three ESL games he averaged remarkable 21.7ppg, 3.0rpg and 4.7apg. He also represented Jamaica at the Centrobasket in San Juan (Puerto Rico) last year. Scott's team won Bronze and his stats at that event were 6 games: 11.7ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.8apg, Steals-4 (2.2spg), FGP: 48.4%, 3PT: 35.5%, FT: 70.0%. Scott has played also professionally in Finland (Espoo Honka, UU-Korihait, PuHu and Lappeenranta NMKY), Latvia (Ventspils) and SEBL (Baseline). He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Scott attended High Point University until 2006 and it is his seventh season as a professional player. On Scott:

Bucaneros de La Guaira (LPB) tabbed 27-year old American power forward Raymond Sykes (206-100kg-86, college: Clemson, agency: Three Eye Sports). He played recently at Bandirma Kirmizi in Turkish TBL league. In 34 games he averaged impressive 17.4ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.1spg and 1.6bpg this season. The last (2011) season Sykes played at Sioux Falls Skyforce in D-League. In 48 games he had 14.1ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.0apg and 1.8bpg. The last (2011) summer he played at Bameso (District National) in Dominican Rep. league. In 2009 Sykes was drafted by Sioux Falls Skyforce (D-League) in first round (13th overall). The former Clemson University standoutis in his fourth season in pro basketball. He played in the final of ACC Tournament in 2008. Sykes is described as:

Barqusimeto, Venezuela.- Trotamundos de Carabobo signed PG Perry Petty (185-G-88), a former player of Giurgiu in Romania, to replace PG Courtney Fortson, who will have to leave the team to family related issues he needs to attend back in the United States.
Petty, a 24 year-old, 1.85m tall player, was spectacular in Romania with averages of 20.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. It will be his first experience in a Latin American league, since his previous contract was to play for Slovakia's BK Vahostav-SK Zilina, a league in which he averaged 18.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.9 steals per game in 15 games back in the 2011-2012 season. in Romania, Petty had 8 30-points plus performances, including two 40-points plus performances.
He began his NCAA in Santa Clara and then requested for a transfer to UTPA. In his senior season, 2010-2011, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in 19 games.
Trotamundos de Carabobo also decided to release Brazilian PF-C Hatila Passos and trust recently hired James Tyler. The team also has Darius Rice and injured Trey Gilder as imported players.
