Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Panteras de Miranda's general management has decided to keep Spanish head coach Manuel Povea at the helm for the 2018 edition of Liga Profesional (LPB), set to begin on May 11th with a shortened regular season schedule (only 16 games) and teams split into 2 conferences of 5 franchises per group.
"We'll have Povea with us again", said Argenis Mujica , GM of Panteras, to Sports Venezuela's Reyes Urena. "He finished the last season as the head coach for us. He knows the roster, the league and knows where we want to go".
Povea replaced Venezuelan David Diaz, a former Senior NT player who had led the team to a 3-11 start. The beginning of preseason could take place next week at Jose Joaquin Carrillo Arena (Miranda Park) in Caracas.
Mujica also said that the foreign players to be hired would arrive a week prior to the start of the season and that there's a big chance for the team to hire another known face, that of American SF Trey Gilder (206-PF-85, college: Northwestern St.). "The coach will decided which foreign players we'll bring according to the team's needs", said Mujica. "We've already gotten in touch with some foreigners and we could possibly bring back Trey Gilder".
Panteras's first two games will be as visitors against Marinos de Anzoategui on May 12th and 13th at Luis Ramos Arena of Puerto La Cruz. Even though an official schedule has been completed and discussed by the franchises, the LPB's main board hasn't released it.
