Rafael Perez
Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- The general management of Guaiqueries de Margarita reached an agreement with its counterparts at Trotamundos de Carabobo, to trade SF-PF Hernan Salcedo (198-F-80) and SF Cesar Silva (190-G/F-81) to the "Blue Express" and get SG Rafael Perez (193-G/F-82) in return.

The move is huge, considering the amount of experience accounted by all the players involved, as well as the complexity of their contracts. Silva has had his share of public differences with Guaiqueries about a raise in his salary for the 2013 season and claimed he hadn't gotten paid for his work last December.

He's been with the team since 2004 and was the last remaining player from the 2007 team that won Venezuela's LPB championship. He's played his whole career for Margarita and has shared time between Venezuela and Colombia's Copa Invitacional. He's a sharp three-point shooter and keen defender who averaged 6.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists in 51 games in 2012.

Meanwhile, Salcedo's tenure with Guaiqueries lasted only one year after he arrived from Bucaneros de La Guaira in another major trade. In his single season in Margarita he averaged 9.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 43 games. He actually started his career with Trotamundos back in 1998. He's also played for Guaros de Lara, Gaiteros del Zulia, Marinos de Anzoategui and Bucaneros de La Guaira and has played as a foreign player in Mexico's LNBP and Colombia's Copa Invitacional.

Rafael Perez, a Carabobo state native and former player of Venezuela's Senior NT, had belonged to Trotamundos his whole career, though he actually starting playing consistently for the team in 2009, because prior to that, he would spent most of the time in Puerto Rico, the country where he went to college. He's got a Puerto Rican passport that allows him to play as a national player, so he's got broad experience in that country's Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He also had brief stints in Mexico's LNBP.

Perez averaged 14.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 37 games in LPB 2012 but could not reach an agreement with Trotamundos for a contract improvement and extension.
