Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Venezuelan head coach Gustavo Garcia decided to leave Gaiteros del Zulia and accept an offer from the main board of Gigantes de Guayana to coach the team for the upcoming edition of Liga Profesional (LPB), set to begin on May 11th.
Garcia will arrive to Puerto Ordaz on Sunday, April 22nd, on time for the start of preseason at Hermanas Gonzalez Arena, next Monday 23rd. It'll be the tenth year for Gigantes as an LPB franchise.
The new head coach will replace Spanish Curro Segura and will become the fourth ever Venezuelan to coach Gigantes, after Nelson Solorzano , Francisco "Paco" Diez and former NBA player Carl Herrera . Garcia was the LPB's 2014 Coach of the Year, back when he worked for Toros de Aragua.

"We'll have Povea with us again", said Argenis Mujica , GM of Panteras, to Sports Venezuela's Reyes Urena. "He finished the last season as the head coach for us. He knows the roster, the league and knows where we want to go".
Povea replaced Venezuelan David Diaz, a former Senior NT player who had led the team to a 3-11 start. The beginning of preseason could take place next week at Jose Joaquin Carrillo Arena (Miranda Park) in Caracas.
Mujica also said that the foreign players to be hired would arrive a week prior to the start of the season and that there's a big chance for the team to hire another known face, that of American SF Trey Gilder (206-PF-85, college: Northwestern St.). "The coach will decided which foreign players we'll bring according to the team's needs", said Mujica. "We've already gotten in touch with some foreigners and we could possibly bring back Trey Gilder".
Panteras's first two games will be as visitors against Marinos de Anzoategui on May 12th and 13th at Luis Ramos Arena of Puerto La Cruz. Even though an official schedule has been completed and discussed by the franchises, the LPB's main board hasn't released it.
