After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the LPB and who belongs to weaker ones. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Bucaneros (5-3) in La Guaira on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Gigantes (3-1) 69-67. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Bucaneros. Gigantes dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Bucaneros' 20. Worth to mention a great performance of American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) who added 10 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Bucaneros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gigantes maintains second position with 3-1 record having nine points less than leader Bucaneros. Bucaneros at the other side still keep top place with three games lost. Gigantes are looking forward to face league's leader Cocodrilos in Caracas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bucaneros will play on the road against Guaiqueries in Porlamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Maracaibo. Fifth ranked Panteras (1-5) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 4th ranked Gaiteros (2-4) 107-106 on Sunday evening. The winners were led by the former international power forward Luis Julio (201-80) who scored that evening 20 points and 8 rebounds and Kareem Canty supported him with 24 points. Even 43 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Dominican Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) did not help to save the game for Gaiteros. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panteras maintains fifth position with 1-5 record. Gaiteros at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Panteras will play against Toros (#5) in Maracay in the next round. Gaiteros will play on the road against Guaros in Barquisimeto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Puerto La Cruz between Marinos and Guaiqueries. Fourth ranked Marinos (1-3) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers Guaiqueries (3-3). Marinos managed to escape with a 2-point win 68-66 on Sunday evening. Juan Herrera fired 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Marcus Melvin produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Guaiqueries' coach Oscar Silva tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Marinos maintains fourth position with 1-3 record, which they share with Guaros. Loser Guaiqueries keep the third place with three games lost. Marinos will meet league's second-placed Trotamundos in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Guaiqueries will play against the league's leader Bucaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention a great performance of Ricardo Powell who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 6 rebounds. Trotamundos maintains second position with 4-2 record having six points less than leader Bucaneros. Loser Guaros dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. Trotamundos will face Marinos (#4) in Puerto La Cruz in the next round. Guaros will play at home against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Panteras lost to Gaiteros on the opponent's court 74-84. Winless Toros lost to defending champion Cocodrilos in a home game 81-88. Trotamundos were rolled over Guaros on the road 57-81. Cocodrilos crushed Toros on its own court 90-66. Gigantes were beaten by Bucaneros in La Guaira 89-83.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points by Miguel Paul of Cocodrilos.

Gaiteros - Panteras 84-74

Everything could happen in Maracaibo at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Gaiteros and 5th ranked Panteras had identical 1-4 record. This time Gaiteros used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Caracas 84-74 on Monday night. Gaiteros outrebounded Panteras 44-32 including 33 on the defensive glass. Panteras were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) who added 6 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) scored 16 points. It looked good early as Marinos took a 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guaiqueries took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 7 points. 24 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Jesus Urbina (201-84, college: George Mason) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-81. Strangely Toros outrebounded Cocodrilos 35-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Toros were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Miguel Paul (185-90, college: E.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and the other American import forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) who added 19 points during the contest. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. The game without a history. Guaros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Trotamundos' 26. They outrebounded Trotamundos 44-32 including a 38-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) who added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest.
