John Flowers gets MVP of the Week award for Venezuelan LPB - Mar 20, 2017

American John Flowers (200-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's leader Cocodrilos and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 27-year old forward had the game-high 28 points adding six rebounds and four assists for Cocodrilos in his team's victory, helping them to beat Gigantes (#2, 4-2) 91-81. It allowed Cocodrilos to consolidate first place in the Venezuelan LPB. Cocodrilos has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 9-1. In the team's last game Flowers had a remarkable 87.5% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He just recently signed at Cocodrilos, being already a very valuable addition to the team. West Virginia University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Flowers is in league's top in points (4th best: 17.9ppg) and averages solid 1.1bpg and 55.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 38-year old former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-F-78) of second-ranked Gigantes. Sucre impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Gigantes lost that game 81-91 to slightly higher-ranked Cocodrilos (#1, 9-1). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in Western Conference. Gigantes still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 4-2 record is not bad at all. Sucre is a newcomer at Gigantes and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#2). He also registered 11.2 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was Argentinian forward Tulio Cobos (197-F-86) of top-ranked Bucaneros. Cobos got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds . He was a key player of Bucaneros, leading his team to a 87-72 easy win against #3 ranked Guaiqueries. Bucaneros confirms their top position in Eastern Conference. Their record at this point is 6 victories and 4 lost games. Cobos has a very solid season. In 10 games in Venezuela he scored 12.5ppg. He also has 5.8rpg and FGP: 54.7%.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

CARLOS CEDENO Panteras de Miranda (LPB) agreed terms with 32-year old ex-international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips JC). He played this summer at Bucaneros and got traded to this team for SF Junior Martinez (200-F-92), who was playing for Bucaneros as a loan for the LPB 2018 season. GREGORY VARGAS Defending champion Guaros de Lara (LPB) inked 32-year old Venezuelan international point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports).
