Josh Powell
Experienced American Josh Powell (206-F-83) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's second-best Trotamundos and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 33-year old forward had the game-high 29 points adding nine rebounds for Trotamundos in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Panteras (#5, 3-11) 85-84. Trotamundos maintains the 2nd position in their group in Venezuelan LPB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Trotamundos will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. In the team's last game Powell had a remarkable 78.6% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Trotamundos, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Josh Powell averages this season 18.0ppg and 7.2rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Trotamundos' star - 33-year old American forward Ricardo Powell (199-F-83). Powell impressed basketball fans with 28 points and 8 rebounds. It was enough for Trotamundos to edge the lower-ranked Panteras (#5, 3-11) by 1 point 82-81. Trotamundos' second position in Western Conference has not changed. His team's 8-6 record is not bad at all. Powell is one of the most experienced players at Trotamundos and similarly like Josh Powell has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Dominican Rep. Juan Miguel Suero (198-SG-93) of Gaiteros (#4). Suero showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the last round. Despite Suero's great performance Gaiteros lost 69-88 to #2 ranked Gigantes. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The chances of Gaiteros not to end season at such low position in Eastern Conference, however are less than slim as they have already lost 7 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Suero could try to bring Gaiteros' a little bit higher in the standings. Suero has individually a great season in Venezuela. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.7ppg (best scorer) and assists with 4.6apg (3rd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jordan Hamilton (201-G/F-90) of Bucaneros - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Kelvin Pena (193-G-80) of Toros - 30 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Trey Gilder (206-PF-85) of Panteras - 23 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Lazar Hayward (225-SF-86) of Guaros - 23 points and 11 rebounds
8. Juan Guerrero (201-F-93) of Toros - 17 points and 14 rebounds
9. Devan Downey (175-G-87) of Guaiqueries - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Harold Cazorla (175-PG-91) of Gigantes - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

American Point guard Isaiah Swann (188-PG-85) had a great game in the last round for Marinos, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19. Marinos maintains the 4th position in their group in Venezuelan LPB. Marinos is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit low...   [read more]

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Venezuelan players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an experienced international guard John Cox (194-81, agency: Pensack Sports).
