The round was exceptionally exciting as four games ended with a tiny margin. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Guaiqueries as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Guaiqueries edged 3rd placed Gigantes in Porlamar 81-80. Guaiqueries made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who saved his team from a defeat with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) answered with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Gigantes. Guaiqueries (10-6) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Trotamundos. Gigantes at the other side keep the third place with six games lost. Gigantes will play next round against strong Trotamundos trying to get back on the winning streak. Guaiqueries will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Gaiteros in Maracaibo.

Marinos moved-up to third place, which they share with Guaros. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top position with four games lost. Fifth-ranked Toros (3-11) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Trotamundos (10-6) in Maracay. The visitors from Valencia managed to secure only three-point victory 98-95. However their fans expected easier game. The best player for the winners was Ricardo Powell who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Toros' coach Israel Sarmiento tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Trotamundos. They used an opportunity after Guaiqueries lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Toros lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth place with 11 games lost. Trotamundos' next round opponent will be Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz, which may be the game of the day. Toros will play at home against Guaros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a good game for Cesar Silva who saved his team from a defeat with 16 points and 6 assists. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Guaiqueries. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Trotamundos. Loser Gigantes keep the third place with six games lost. Guaiqueries will face Gaiteros (#4) in Maracaibo in the next round. Gigantes will play at home against the league's second-placed Trotamundos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Toros were beaten by Trotamundos on the road 78-72. Guaros won against Panteras on its own court 82-81. Gaiteros managed to outperform Bucaneros in Maracaibo 82-64. Guaros rolled over Panteras at home 112-84. Gaiteros were defeated by Bucaneros on the opponent's court 78-71.

Marinos - Cocodrilos 79-77

Leading Cocodrilos (14-4) recorded its fourth loss in Puerto La Cruz. Visitors were edged by fourth ranked Marinos (6-6) 79-77. Cocodrilos were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) stepped up and scored 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Four Marinos players scored in double figures. Marinos' coach Tony Ruiz allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. It was a good game for American swingman Jordan Hamilton (201-90, college: Texas) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 7 rebounds. International center Windi Graterol (204-86, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Bucaneros' coach Fernando Calero used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) answered with 21 points and 5 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Gaiteros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Bucaneros went down to second position due to points difference. Gaiteros lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Bucaneros will have a break next round. Gaiteros will play at home against the league's leader Guaiqueries (#1) and hope to win that game.
