Gregory
Echenique
26-year old center Gregory Echenique (206-C-90, agency: Pensack Sports) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Guaros and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 18.
He had a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds, while his team outclassed Gaiteros (#5, 7-21) with 37-point margin 112-75. Guaros maintains the 2nd position in their group in Venezuelan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Guaros will need more victories to improve their 21-11 record. It's Echenique's second year at Guaros and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Gregory Echenique averages this season 12.4ppg and 6.8rpg.

Second best performed player last round was Quinnel Brown (198-SF-83) of Gigantes. He is American in his first season at Gigantes. In the last game Brown recorded impressive double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for Gigantes to edge slightly higher-ranked Guaiqueries (#1, 21-13) by 2 points 71-69. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in Eastern Conference. Gigantes consolidated its place in top 3 of the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 16-18 record. Brown is one of the most experienced players at Gigantes and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.6ppg (#5). He also registered 5.4 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to Michael Carrera (196-SF-93) of Marinos (#4). Carrera scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Despite Carrera's great performance Marinos lost 98-100 to #4 ranked Toros. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The chances of Marinos ranking at the top of Western Conference, however are very questionable as they have already lost 17 games, recording just thirteen victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Carrera could help Marinos to bring them higher in the standings. Carrera has a very solid season. In 14 games in Venezuela he scored 16.6ppg. He also has 6.1rpg, 1.5bpg and FGP: 59.0%. Michael Carrera has also Venezuelan passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Juan Guerrero (201-F-93) of Toros - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Axiers Sucre (199-F-78) of Gigantes - 11 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Lazar Hayward (225-SF-86) of Guaros - 18 points and 10 rebounds
7. Andy Panko (203-F-77) of Guaros - 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Marcus Melvin (206-F-82) of Guaiqueries - 25 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Jesus Centeno (190-G-85) of Marinos - 11 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists
10. Elder Gimenez (186-G-91) of Toros - 27 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
