| |  | Last Saturday night at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio, the BECOL tournament concluded all the divisions played. In the U-20 division, St Ignatius High School (2-1) lifted the championship cup after defeating West Side (1-2) in game three 41 - 34. The Bermudez bothers (Garrett and Elliott) led St Ignatius with 10 pts while Frank Fuller scored 7 pts. In a losing effort, Anthony Codd scored 14 pts followed by Jose Luis Pech with 10. Meanwhile in the Over-35 category, all three games in this series were decided by 2 points. Belmopan Bandits (2-1) defeated Benque Rockers in the last game by a score of 52 - 50. For the Bandits, Robert Allen led the team with 17 pts, 8 rbs, followed by Clive Sutherland with 10 pts, 5 steals and Clifford King with 10 pts and 3 steals. In a losing effort, Maino 'Skull' Bevans scored 16 pts, 11 rbs, Efrain 'Beep' Phillps 11 pts, 4 rbs and 3 assists and Marlon 'Snake' Villanueva 8 pts. In the main event, Christ for Life (2-1) and Belize Bank Diamonds (1-2) entered the court with a 1 - 1 record. The game was very defensive as both teams knew that mistakes would cost them dearly. The Diamonds were playing their second finals in two consecutive years and twice they have been neglected the chance to lift up the cup. At the end of regulation time, it was Christ for Life coming out victorious with a score of 68 - 60. For the Champs, Jamie Gillett scored 16 pts, Korie Williams 15 pts, Mark Gentle 9 pts, 8 rbs and Linden 'Tahu' Galvez 9 pts. | |  | The first champ has emerged in the U-17 division in the BECOL tournament. Last weekend, the Tigers completed a two-game sweep over Sacred Heart College, winning by the score of 47-28 on Friday night, and by the score of 47-35 on Sunday night.
In the Senior division, the champ will be decided this coming Saturday night between Christ for Life and Belize Bank Diamonds. In game one of this series, Christ for Life beat the Diamonds by a score of 62-50. Mark Gentle had 16 pts in the win, followed by Keith Acosta (193-G/F-76, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) 13 pts 8 rebs and Linden Galvez 15 pts 7 rebs. The Diamonds were led by Lester Cadle (188-G-80) 22 pts 4 rebs and Milton Hoare 10 pts 3 rebs. In game two, the Diamonds extended the series to game three after deafeating Christ for Life by a score of 70-61. Lester Cadle had a game high of 25 pts, followed by Michael Martinez 14 pts and Stanley Flowers 11 pts. Christ for Life was led by Mark Gentle 13 pts, Brett Smith 13 pts 9 rebs, Jamie Gillett 13 pts, Linden Galvez 12 pts 6 rebs and Rico Black (180-G-75) 10 pts. |

Last weekend, games continued in the BECOL Tournament featuring a number of games in the different divisions. Friday night, in the U-20 game Hydro Power (3-2) defeated Young Stars (2-4) in a close match 35 - 33. For Hydro Power Jerome Lepp Garcia scored 10 pts and 2 steals. In a losing effort, Abel Simpson scored 9 pts, 2 rebs and Regis Morris 8 pts. In the Over 35, Hydro Power lost again this time to Benque Rockers by 55 46. Maino Skull Bevans scored a double double with 22 pts, 11 rebs, 3 steals, Kirk Peppa Jones, 16 pts, 6 rebs and Edgar Garrido 8 pts. In a losing effort, Steven Usher scored 29 pts, 3 rebs while Gerald Usher 10 pts and 4 rebs. In the Senior division, Belize Bank Diamonds (5-1) played for the top seed against Christ for Life (4-2) and it was Belize Bank who came out with the victory by 52 - 35. Lester Cadle (188-G-80) scored a double double, 19 pts, 12 rebs, 2 assists and 2 blocks, Emerson King 9 pts, 2 steals and Micheal Martinez 8 pts and 7 rebs. In a losing effort, Jamie Bug Gentle scored 9 pts. Saturday night, in the U-17 division, L. A. Tigers (4-0) beat Wolves (0-4) 50 - 28. for the Tigers, Zamir Gramox Usher scored 11 pts, Elvis Zui Usher Jr., 10 pts, 7 rebs, 2 blocks while Shelton O Defour Jr., 9 pts and 6 rebs. In a losing effort, Amir Westby scored 8 pts, 7 rebs and Gian Zetina 6 pts. In the U-20 division, West Side (3-3) obtained their third victory in a row after defeating Cayo Ballers (0-4) by a crushing margin of 61 31. For West Side, Evan Brown scored 14 pts, 7 rebs, Cesar Castellanos 14 pts, 3 rebs, Jose Luis Pech 8 rebs, 5 rebs and 2 steals. In a losing effort, Shimeon Simpson scored 13 pts, 2 rebs while Dudley Smith 8 pts, 6 rebs and 2 steals. In the Senior Division, E-Three Stars obtained an easy victory when Spartans was unable to field a team on time, so they lost by forfeit.
Games for this coming weekend. First game starts at 6:30 p.m. sharp. This is the last weekend for regular season, as the playoff kicks off on May 2nd.

Last Saturday night at the Deacon Call Court in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo, the BECOL Tournament continued games of the regular season. In the U-20 division, West Side (2-3) beat Young Stars (2-3) by a score of 49 - 36. For West Side, Cesar Castellanos scored 15 pts, 4 steals, Halil Alcoser 11 pts, 2 rebs, Jose Luis Pech, with a double double, 10 pts, 10 rebs, 2 assists and Evan Brown 8 pts, 9 rebs and 2 assists. In a losing effort, Regis Morris scored 8 pts, 5 rebs and 2 assists. In the Over 35, Esperanza Veterans won their first game in an exiting game against ICB Veterans by 48 - 46. With 1:30 left, ICB was trailing by 7 points, so they started fouling. With 5 seconds to go, ICB down by 1, with Rico Black (180-G-75) going to the line to shoot 2. He made the first to tie the game, then the second shot missed, with Esperanza clearing the rebound. With the game tied, Oscar Quewell, from ICB, deliberately fouled Tate, and Tate hit both free throws to win the game. Big mental mistake by Quewell. For esperanza, Evan Reynolds scored 19 pts, 2 assists, 4 steals, Jesse Tate, 12 pts, 4 steals. In a losing effort, Rico Black scored 14 pts, 4 rebs and Kano Green with a double double, 13 pts and 14 rebs. In the main attraction of the night, SHJC/BNE Harpy Eagles made history when they ended the season with a 4-2 record and qualifying to the playoffs. After beating Spartans (1-3) by a crushing defeat of 90 - 48, the Harpies are a team to watch for their defensive and especially offensive team they have. Last season they ended up in the cellar with a 1-6 record but this year it's a different story. For the winning Harpies, Mervin Castillo (-C) scored 20 pts, 9 rebs, 1 block, Elton Moore with another extra-ordinary monster night with a Double Double figure, 20 pts, 12 rebs, 6 steals, Omar Yacab, 13 pts and 6 rebs, while Lucas Wordsworth (188-F) also with double double figures, 13 pts, 12 rebs and 4 steals. In a losing effort, Aubrey Lopez (188-G) scored a double double figures, 23 pts and 13 rebs.

In the first game, in the U-17 division, Sacred Heart College (2-2) beat the Wolves (0-3) by a score of 45 - 25. For Sacred Heart, Shimeon Simpson scored 21 pts, 4 rebs and 2 assists while Dijon McNabb 11 pts. In a losing effort, Julian Guzman scored 13 pts. In the second game of the night, in the Senior division, Maratown Patriots (1-4) defeated Venus Warriors (0-6) to make them the worst team of the league. The game was exciting since both teams went out looking for the win to avoid the cellar. In the end, the Patriots come out victorious by 66 - 50. Mason 'Pallad' Berry had a marvelous night a double double figure, 18 pts 14 rebs, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block, Jermaine 'Bull' Pandy, 14 pts, 4 rebs and 2 assists, while Jovian 'Grease' Urbina with 11 pts, 2 assists, 2 steals and Paul Smith 11 pts, 2 assists and 2 steals. In a losing effort, Englebert 'Squeaky' Haylock scored 16 pts, 2 rebs, Leon Myers wth 15 pts, 4 rebs and Jamie Edwards, 11 pts and 4 rebs. In the main attraction of the nigh, in the Senior division, the champs - E-Three Stars (4-1) in two straight season had never lost a game. They went undefeated last season. E-Three Stars leading scorer and rebounder, Center Mark O'Brien 6'2'', did not get any minutes in the second half, due to his coach's decision to sit him??? Probably one of the biggest coaching mistake to cost a game. Nevertheless, Belize Bank Diamonds (4-1) took advantage and played their game to win by 72 - 67. For the Diamonds, Lester Cadle (188-G-80) scored 31 pts, 4 rebs, Micheal Martinez 10 pts, 2 rebs, 3 assists and Milton Hoare 12 pts and 2 assists. In a losing effort, Elroy 'Shabba' Willis, had 16 pts, 5 rebs, Jason Daly (183-G), 17 pts, 6 rebs and Shannon Guzman 14 pts. |

| |  | Last Saturday night at the Sacred Heart College grounds, the BECOL tournament kicked off with three games. In the U-20 Division, St Ignatius High School (5-0) was able to come out victorious in a tight game of three points (38-35) against the Cayo Ballers (0-3). With the win, St Ignatius poses to be one of the favorite candidates to win this division. For the winning team, Garrett Bermudez scored 15 pts, 5 rebs while Frank Fuller had 9 pts, 13 rebs, 2 assists and 2 steals. In a losing effort, Kevin 'Bing' Simpson scored 16 pts and Floyd 'Big Jim' Morro 7 pts. In the U-35 Division, Benque Rockers (4-1) defeated Esperanza Veterans (0-4) by 75 - 59. For the Rockers, Marlon 'Snake' Villanueva scored 25 pts, Maino 'Skull' Bevans 22 pts, Pulu Lightburn 17 pts and Kirk Jones 11 pts. In a losing effort, Ernest Thompson scored 16 pts 3 rebs, Ronald Reynolds 15 pts 4 rebs and Evan Reynolds 15 pts, 7 rebs and 2 assists. In the main attraction of the night, Christ for Life improved to a 4-1 record after defeating Venus Warriors 80 - 44 and in the process killing all hopes for the Warriors to reach playoffs. From beginning to end Christ for Life was much more superior than the Warriors. For the winning team, Keith Acosta (193-G/F-76, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) scored 17 pts, 7 rebs, mark Gentl 13 pts, 4 rebs and Rico Black (180-G-75) 12 pts. In a losing effort, Leon Myers scored 15 pts and 7 rebs while Jamie Edwards 10 pts and 6 rebs.

| |  | Week seven continued in the BECOL Tournament at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio Town featuring a U-20 game between West Side (1-3) and Young Stars (2-2). West Side was able to obtain their first victory by 48 - 36 after having a three game losing streak. For the winning team, Halil Alcoser scored 19 pts, 4 assists and 3 steals while Evan Brown 11 pts, 8 rebs, 4 assists and 2 steals. In a losing effort, Zamir Usher ended with 11 pts, 4 rebs, 3 assists while Regis Morris 8 pts, 6 rebs and 2 steals. In the O-35, Belmopan Bandits (4-1) beat ICB Veterans (2-2) by a score of 68 - 55. For the Bandits, Austin Flores scored 15 pts, 5 rebs, Clive Sutherland 15 pts, Winston Arzu 12 pts, 3 rebs and Arden Diego 10 pts and 3 rebs. In a losing effort, Elvis 'Tiger Usher scored 13 pts, 8 rebs and 2 assists while Oscar 'Jordan' Quewell came up with a big game of doubles, 25 pts, 10 rebs, and 6 assists. The main Attraction of the night was a Senior game between E Three Stars (4-0) and the Patriots (0-4). Everybody thought that the Patriots, without Richard Troyer, were going to be an easy steak for E Three Stars but it wasn't so. The Patriots led the whole game except in the final and most crucial quarter; they saw the lead vanish, becoming a heart breaking three point loss. This loss means the actual elimination of any playoff hopes for the Patriots. For the winning team, Mark O'Brien again had big numbers, 16 pts, 11 rebs, Jason Daly (183-G) 9 pts, 5 rebs and Jimmy Rudon 12 pts, 7 rebs and 5 steals. In a losing effort, Jovian 'Grease' Urbina scored 14 pts, 6 rebs, steals and 2 blocks, Calvin 'Bindo' Welch with a double double,12 pts, 14 rebs, 3 assists and 2 steals while Justin 'Erbs' Urbina 10 pts, 6 rebs and 3 assists. |
