Raul Cardenas (190-G-82, college: Faulkner), current player of german team Proveo Merlins Crailsheim in an interview with Latinbasket told us:
Latinbasket: Greetings Raul, you're playing in Europe today, but how are you at the moment? how was your road to germany? what about your team?
Raul: "After i was done in college, i went to Italy for an invitation

Raul: "After i was done in college, i went to Italy for an invitation in a basketball camp, and i really played good that i became the MVP of the tournament, so this team from Germany, Proveo-Merlins saw me and they offered me to play over there right at away , and i took it, so i would say i had a very successful trip to Europe and Germany. My team. My team is young team which i thinks it has the hungry to win and to get better, so i am happy with it;of course it is not perfect there a few things that i would like to change , but i guess that is not my roll as player, so in general responde i feel comfortable with the team".
Latinbasket: The Guayas local league stars tonight, what is your opinion? Raul: "i am happy to hear that finnaly the guayas league starts today. I hope those 8 teams can achieve what they were planning to achieve. So i would just encorage to those peole who really love this sport; get better; beintentional with what you do, and at least they will have the satisfaction to themseves and there were not going to be any regreats in their lives".
Latinbasket: Speak us about your futures projects? Raul: "In the future i would like to play in a better and bigger league and see myself in a position that i would really need to work harder in my game. Also, i would like to express and share all my expierence with people, players, kids, coaches that i know from y hometown, Guayaquil".
Latinbasket: Which is your current position in your team? Raul: "I'm playing as pointguard".
Latinbasket: Are you feel incomfort in this position or do you think you would play better like a guard? Raul: "Actually i love to play as a pointguard because thats what i used to play back in the days. i don' t mind to play as a shooting guard at times, but i really feel comfortable as a pointguard".
The Guayas' Local League will have his first movements tomorrow at night. There are 8 teams who´ll fight the 1st place from the beggining of the competition, all, including to last team champion, La Salle, who will search his 5th championship consecutive to reach legendary team EMELEC of the years 90 who was championship six times on the road.

But that was as far as it got. They fell short to Oklahoma City University 61:76 leaving their final game hopes for the next year.

Raul Cardenas finished the game with 2 points on a 1/1 shooting in 10 minutes. In the quarterfinal Faulkner upset Northwestern Oklahoma 76:59. Raul Cardenas appeared in the starting five and logged 16 minutes on the floor. He managed 2 points (1/3 FG), 5 rebounds and a steal. Raul Cardenas finished the season averaging 5.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.09 steals per game. Ecuadorian guard shot 38% of field goals and 27% of three pointers. His season highs include 20 points and 10 rebounds against University of Mobile.

Ecuador guard Raul Cardenas (190-G-82, college: Santa Fe CC), who is playing for Faulkner University, enjoyed the starting spot in the last two games.
The Eagles started February with the win over Southern Polytechnic State 71:67 at home. Raul Cardenas appeared on the court as a starting guard for the Eagles and contributed to the victory.

He managed 10 points (2/3 FG, 1/1 3pt, 5/5 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Recently Faulkner visited Reinhardt College and grabbed another win. Raul Cardenas was again starter for the Eagles and delivered 4 points (1/4 FG, 2/3 FT), 3 rebounds and an assist. The Faulkner Eagles are at 12-6 in the NAIA Division 1 competition. Raul Cardenas meanwhile averages 5.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in the season.

The Basketball Confederation of South America (Consubasquet) started to receive applications for the 16 teams that will compete in the XI edition of South American League. The President of Ecuador Basketball Federation, Mr. Galo Vargas, announced that Ecuador will be represented by ESPE Quito, the reigning national champion. The tournment will start in February 2007, with 4 groups of 4 teams each.

The novelty of 2007 is that the teams coming from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru will be allowed to register three imports, to grant a major level of competition, while the teams from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Venezuela will have only two stranger playres. Also, the winner of the next South American League will earn a spot in the new club competition named "Liga de las Americas" that will start in October 2007.
