SANTO DOMINGO -
'Marcelinho' Machado (200-F/G-75, agency:
Interperformances) from Brazil was selected as the MVP of the 2005 FIBA
Americas Championship played in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican
Republic.
Machado ended with an average of 23.2 points
per game in ten games and guided Brazil to a Gold Medal win in the tournament
with nhis consistent play on both sides of the floor.
The All Tournament Team was selected, the five elite players in the Championship
were:

'Leandrinho' Barbosa
(190-G-82) scored five three pointers in the final quarter and gave Brazil the
Gold Medal in the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship as they defeated Argentina
100-88.
Barbosa was one of the key figures of Brazil,
as Tiago
Splitter (211-C/F-85, agency:
Interperformances) and
'Marcelinho' Machado (200-F/G-75, agency:
Interperformances) were also big figures for Brazil during the
tournament. Leandro was the leader with 29 points, Splitter had 25 and Machado
21 in the win.
'Marcelinho' Machado (200-F/G-75, agency:
Interperformances) was named the MVP of the FIBA Americas Championship.
Leandro scored four three pointers in the first four
minutes of the final quarter and after a flagrant foul by
Federico
Kammerichs (203-F-80), Brazil had a 83-77 lead. After that, Barbosa
continued hitting from the perimeter and sealed the game.
Argentina won the first quarter 32-21 but Brazil came back in the first
half and won it 49-43 led by 17 points by Tiago and 15 by Marcelo.
The best for Argentina in the game was
Roman

Argentina could not score from the perimeter in the final minutes and
lost concentration doing costly turnovers as well.
Venezuela
wins the Bronze Medal after dominating USA. - Sep 4, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO - Venezuela won the Bronze Medal over USA in the Final Round
of the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship by winning 93-83 after a great game by

The Venezuelans dominated the whole game with

This is the second medal by Venezuela in a FIBA Americas Championship as they
won the Silver Medal in the 1992 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Argentina
goes for the Gold, again! - Sep 4, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO - Argentina will play for the Gold Medal in the 2005 FIBA
Americas Championship against Brazil after beating Venezuela by the score of
104-93 in the Semifinals.
The Argentineans went to the tournament
without their big stars, but proved to be in the elite of World Basketball
by playing for a Gold Medal after just winning one in the 2004 Olympics.
Venezuela will now play USA for the Bronze Medal.
Richard

and
Oscar Jose Torres (195-F/G-76) did everything they could to stop Argentina,
but the winners answered every call.
The first quarter was an intense one and it ended 33-30 with an advantage by
Argentina. In the second quarter the intensity went down a bit and ended 53-50.
Venezuela tried to come back but Argentina continued shooting well from the
perimeter and from the free throw line to get the win.
Paolo Quinteros (185-G-79) led Argentina with 15 points,
Federico
Kammerichs (203-F-80) scored 14 and
Hernan
Jasen (196-G-78) along with
Daniel

goes for the Gold Medal after beating USA in the Semifinals. - Sep 4, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO Brazil defeated USA 93-75 in the Semifinals at the 2005 FIBA
Americas Championship played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This is their second game against each other, as USA won the first game
96-94 in the first round.
'Marcelinho' Machado (200-F/G-75, agency:
Interperformances) led Brazil's balanced attack with 19 points, followed by
'Leandrinho' Barbosa
(190-G-82) who scored 18 points and

The first half ended 51-41 in favor os Brazil after

Brazil started the final quarter with a 9-0 run to put the score 83-60 and
secure the game at the half point of the quarter after a basket by

Now Brazil will wait for the winner of the Argentina-Venezuela game to
play for the Gold, while USA will play for the Bronze against the loser.
Familiar
faces in the Semifinals. - Sep 3, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO - The standings in the Quarterfinals showed four familiar
teams battling in the Semifinals: Argentina, Brazil, USA and Venezuela.
Argentina defeated Brazil 71-60, USA fell to
Puerto Rico 88-80 and Venezuela lost to the Dominican Republic 87-63 to define
the Semifinal matches.
Argentina who finished first in the Quarterfinals standings will take on
Venezuela (21:30) and Brazil, who finished seconds takes on third place USA
(19:00).
Panama ended fifth and qualified because of Argentina ending in the first four
places.

Panama
closes their FIBA World Championship berth. - Sep 2, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO - Panama crushed Puerto
Rico 74-55 and is one step closer into the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
Puerto Rico is even closer to be eliminated.
The Panamains took advantage of the
erratic game from the Puerto Ricans in the final three quarters led by
Michael Hicks (190-G-76, college:

A&M - C.C.) and
Antonio Garcia (203-F/C-76, college:
Ky
Wesleyan).
Michael Hicks (190-G-76, college:

A&M - C.C.) was unstoppable with 31 points, shooting 7-8 from two
points and 5-7 from three points to drive the Puerto Rican defense.

led Puerto Rico with 15 points.
Panama dominated on the rebounds 45-31 and also took advantage of
a poor shooting game by the losers.

The first quarter was all Puerto Rico as
they won it 24-14 led by

range.
In the final day of the Quarterfinals,
Puerto Rico takes on USA and Panama faces Uruguay.

made an impressive rally in the final quarter to beat
Uruguay 91-77 in day 3 of the Quarterfinals in the 2005 FIBA
Americas Championship.
USA made a 16-2 rally from the mid part of the fourth
quarter until there was 1:30 l;eft in the game thanks to
Charlie Bell (191-G-79, agency:
Priority Sports, college:
Michigan St.),
Lynn Greer
(186-G-79, college:
Temple) and
Ron Slay
(203-F-81, agency:
David Lee services, college:
Tennessee) who where consistent from the perimeter and
took advantage of the turnovers by Uruguay. Uruguay made
costly errors and missed key free throws and easy shots to
lose again.

Michigan St.) led USA with 20 points and was followed by
McGhee Aaron (202-F-79, college:
Oklahoma) with 19 points.

game with only 4 points and 11 rebounds.
The first half ended tied at

seconds left. Mazzarino scored 22 points in the first half.
USA closed the Quarterfinals against Puerto Rico and
Uruguay finishes against Panama.
Argentina
gets rid of Venezuela quickly. - Sep 1, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO -
Argentina crushed Venezuela in the third day of the
Quarterfinals in the FIBA Americas Championship. Now
Argentina is the leader of this round with three wins.
The Argentineans dominated all the game as they showed
off a balanced offensive attack.
Roman Gonzalez (206-C-78, agency:
Interperformances) and
Julio Mazzaro (186-G-79) led Argentina with 16 points
and
Diego Lo Grippo (198-F-78) netted 13.
Hector Romero (202-F-80, college:
New Orleans) led Venezuela with 15 points.
Argentina won the first half
41-28 thanks to 10 points by Gonzalez and 7 by
Paolo Quinteros (185-G-79).
In the third quarter Argentina pulled away after a 16-2
run in the first five minutes.
The Venezuelans had a poor
shooting game with a 30% performance from the field.
Argentina will end the
Quarterfinals against Brazil and Venezuela closes against

Panama
wins on day 2 in the Quarterfinals against the Dominican

SANTO DOMINGO --
Panama defeated the Dominican Republic to close day 2 of the
Quarterfinals in the FIBA Americas Championship.
Danilo Pinnock scored all his
15 points in the second half to lead the Panamanians into
victory.

Argentina
crushes USA. - Aug 31, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO -
Argentina crushed USA in day 2 of the Quarterfinals in the
FIBA Americas Championship by the score of 84-67.
This was the first meeting
between the two teams since the Semifinals in the Olympic
Games where Argentina went on to win the Gold.
Paolo Quinteros (185-G-79) netted 21 points and
Leonardo Gutierrez (200-F-78) had 14 for the winners.
Tyus Edney
(178-G-73, college:
UCLA) and Kris Lang led USA with 11 and Charlie Bell had
10.
Argentina won the first half 34-26 thanks to 11 points by
Quinteros.
USA made a comeback in the third quarter, closing the
game 47-46 with 2:04 left, but Argentina pulled away thanks
to Gutierrez and Quinteros who gave Argentina a double digit
lead in the mid part of the fourth quarter.
Argentina faces Venezuela and USA takes on Uruguay
tomorrow.
Puerto
Rico defeats Brazil in double OT. - Aug 31, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO --
Puerto Rico defeated Brazil 107-101 in double overtime at
the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship to maintain their hopes
alive to qualify for the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
Larry Ayuso (190-G-77, agency:
Priority Sports, college:
USC) and
'Marcelinho' Machado (200-F/G-75, agency:
Interperformances) were in a great duel during the whole
game. Machado had to compensate for the bad game that
'Leandrinho' Barbosa
(190-G-82) played.
Ayuso ended with 29 points and Machado 34. Barbosa had 8
points, his worst performance so far.
Machado scored two free throws to put the game 81-78 with
Brazil on top, but
Larry Ayuso (190-G-77, agency:

USC) netted a three pointer with 22.8 left to tie the
game and force the first overtime.
Marcelinho scored 9 points in the first overtime but Ayuso
came to the rescue again and scored another basket with 15.8

Hofstra) scored four free throws in the last 20 seconds
to seal the game. Puerto Rico had a 43-28 halftime deficit
and they were down at one point by 19. In the second half
Puerto Rico used smaller lineup and came back.
Tiago scored 23 points and grabbed 18 points in a losing
cause.
Tomorrow Brazil plays the Dominican Republic and Puerto
Rico will take on Panama.

Both teams had a low output
on offense as the first half was won by Puerto Rico 29-27.

Losses To Panama - Aug 30, 2005
Argentina run out of gas in the final minutes and lost to Panama 89-84 in the
second round opener, and now has to face USA. Jair Peralta and Danilo Pinock
Glover combined for 45 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for Panama, while
Federico Kammerichs led Argentina, who lost the rebounding battle 44-27 with 18
points.
Brazil
crushes Uruguay in the Quarterfinals. - Aug 30, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO - A
great offensive run in the second half gave Brazil a 89-69
win in the second game of the Quarterfinals in the 2005 FIBA
Americas Championship.
The first half ended 37-35
favoring Uruguay. Both teams had a bad shooting performance
in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Brazil recovered in the
second half as they scored 33 points in the third quarter
but Uruguay was still having problems and lost the game by a
large margin.

Surprising
win by Panama. - Aug 30, 2005
SANTO DOMINGO --
Jair Peralta (178-G-76, college:
Tennessee-Martin) and Danilo Pinnock took control of the
offense in the final minutes to give Panama a surprising win
over Argentina 89-84 as the Quarterfinal Round opened in the
2005 FIBA Americas Championship.
Panama was down in the score
most of the game, but they were always close. The winner had
a 76-74 lead with 4:36 left in the game thanks to a three
pointer by Pinnock.
Jair Peralta (178-G-76, college:
Tennessee-Martin) sealed the game with six straight
points in the final 1:25. Peralta ended with 24 points and
Pinnock netted 21.
Federico Kammerichs (203-F-80) scored 18 points and
Hernan Jasen (196-G-78) had 13.
Tomorrow Argentina will face
USA and Panama will take on the Dominican Republic.
