 | Regatas 2007 Champion | |
| | |
Regatas Lima defeated 70-62 Real Club, last Friday, to become the 2007 Peruvian Champion. With this result Regatas won the series 2-0, having finished the year with a 30-2 record, (90%). Real used their changing defense, trying to slow down Regatas by making a pressing all court zone, and changing to individual defense from time to time. Regatas Lima roaster includes, Juan Carlos and Julio Monges, Mohamadua Diop, Robert Bridge, Alejo Martinez, Daniel del Carpio, Javi Budge, Hugo Rangel, Chiqui Masias, Martin la Rosa and Ignacio Vidalon, under the coaching staff of Carlos Zanelatto, Julio Rejas and Enrique Hurtado. With this result Regatas will face a Bolivian team, the winner will classificate to the Liga Sudamericana. In women's basketball also Regatas beat Naval 2-0, recapturing the title they lost last year to Alas Peruanas that finished third. Also in Second Division Basket Regatas B defeated Naval 2-0, showing that the level in Peruvian Basket is very low. With this years ending, all we can see, is that Basket in Peru is at it lowest history point, having only to competitive teams in men's ( Regatas and Real), three competitive teams in women Regatas, Naval and Alas Peruanas ( Real the 4th team in the league, didn't win a match all year long (0-21)), with this kind of system, were the head of the federation, and the superior league, are the some group year after year, that see basket in a amateur way, not making any change at all, doesn't giving others the opportunity or the support to change the hole system that doesn't work, Peruvian basket will continue to be one of the worst in Latin-American.
