 | Trotters continue to impress | |
by Eurobasket News - Jul 5, 2008 | | | The McKnight Trotters extended their perfect quest in the Digicel A Division. Lately they held off the Conaree Fireballs 99:76 to remain spotless in the ladder. Tambora Caines (186-/F-80) led the charge with 27 points for the Trotters. Levi Fyflield came up with 21 points, 9 boards, 8 assists and 4 steals in the victory. The Fireballs answered with 20 points from Richard Munroe. Elvis Williams secured 11 points in a losing effort. The Bay Lions took care of the Newton Ground 57:56 in another encounter of the second round in Division A. Denver Warner notched 21 points and 13 boards to lead the winners. The Challengers Exodus in the meantime suffered the 5th straight loss. This time they were routed 67:77 by the Wolf Pack. Rovan Wigley dropped 26 points and pulled down 8 boards to ensure the winning outcome for the Wolf Pack. Brian Morris (196-C/F-74) tallied 21 points and 14 boards, while Leslie Farrell had 10 points and 7 rebounds in a win. Jason Jarvis provided 19 points and 4 rebounds for the Exodus in the loss. The biggest problem however stays in Exodus inability to build their game around their standout man Glenn Phillip. The talented once again finished with only 8 points and did little to help his team. |

 | Ghetto Roots back to winning ways in Digicel Premier League | |
by Eurobasket News - Jun 21, 2008 | | | The Ghetto Roots rebounded after a stunning defeat to the Rams Hitters last week dealing with the Blue Devils at the Premier League action. The Ghetto Roots celebrated a 78:56 victory to remain the title contenders. The Roots got to a slow start struggling to overcome a tense Blue Devils defense. The Blue Devils stayed at a striking distance and trailed by just 3 points at halftime. But the Ghetto Roots were not about to suffer another defeat. They increased the tempo drastically and cleared off to a safe distance. The Blue Devils failed to deliver when it mattered the most and had to surrender at the end. Anthony Joseph (193-G/F-81) provided 20 points to pace the Roots. Halstead Isles (196-F) and Bertram Richards scored 13 points apiece for the winners. Ian Phillips (185-83) answered with 12 points and 11 boards for the Blue Devils. In the meantime the McKnight Trotters remained undefeated in the Digicel A Division. They knocked down the Challengers Exodus 93:86. Levi Fyfield produced 30 points, 12 boards, 7 assists and 2 steals in his monster performance for the Trotters. Tambora Caines (186-/F-80) contributed 27 points in a winning case. Glen Phillip (198-F-67, college: Quinnipiac) responded with 20 points and 15 boards for the Challengers in defeat. The Sandy Point Fruta Falcons stayed unbeaten in the KFC Junior Division. They defeated the Bird Rock Uprisers 123:49 behind 33 points and 12 assists from Jaslyn Belboda. Calvert Gift notched 24 points in a winning case. Holden Hull had 16 points for the Uprisers. Jaslyn Belboda gave out another astonishing performance a day later as the Falcons toppled the Rams Hitters 89:58. He tallied 32 points to pace the Falcons to another win. | HITTERS BRINGS IN THE HEAVY ARTILLERY FOR BIG MATCH-UP VERSUS GHETTO ROOTS | |
| | | Multi-time SKABA Champions the Rams Hitters are leaving no stones unturned for this weekend's much anticipated clash with the undefeated Horsfords Ghetto Roots. The 2007 finals runners-up have been hard at work with almost daily practice sessions as they come up against the surging and extremely talented Horsfords Ghetto Roots. Horsfords Ghetto Roots have been enjoying a successful season thus far having won all their games very comfortably. The team, which boasts several former and current national players, is seen by most as the deepest and most talented team in the league. However they will have the ultimate test on Sunday when they face the Hitters team who has flew in their 7 foot oversees based Barry University big man Jerran 'Yow' Morris. Morris gained a scholarship some two years ago to play College basketball firstly with a two year college in Western Oklahoma State then he went on to join a 4 year programme with the Barry University Cougars in Florida. At almost 7 feet tall Jerran is easily the most imposing figure in SKABA and his presence will be sure to have an impact on the game. It is widely speculated that at least one other overseas based Hitters player will be in for the game as well. Based on the performances of both teams thus far in the season most basketball pundits have declared that this weekends match-up is a definite SKABA finals preview. Hitters strength lies in the play of veterans Trevor 'Marty' Huggins and Shawn 'Shabba' Forbes. At 43 Marty is the oldest player in the league and still the best shooter. Horsfords Ghetto Roots must ensure that Marty does not have another one of his spectacular nights from behind the arc. Shawn Forbes is the energizer bunny for hitters. He is an exceptional player who works the boards and is as good offensively as he is defensively. He is a 6'5' forward but moves around and often plays like a 6' guard. This often creates problems for opposing teams especially on the defensive end. However these two players can also be the weakness of the team as both or at least one will have to have a good game in order for the team to have a chance against Horsfords Ghetto Roots Horsfords Ghetto Roots exudes talent from top to bottom. The team's strength is its mix of young, talented and experienced players. Once the team is able to remain focused and unified they will make easy work of Hitters. However any breakdown in team unity can adversely affect the performance and success of the team. Both teams will be bearing a great deal of pressure as Hitters will be expected to do well especially with the inclusion of oversees based Jerran Morris. Horsfords Ghetto Roots has been a much talked about team and they will be looked upon to live up to the hype. |

 | Ghetto Roots Off To Impressive Start | |
| | | The SKABA 2008 Digicel/National Bank/KFC League continued over the weekend with some keenly anticipated and exciting match-ups. Newly acquired players Troy 'Jasbo' Wattley with 17 points and a massive 18 rebounds and Anthony Jabal Joseph with 11 points and 10 rebounds led the Ghetto Roots to an impressive victory 76-67 victory over the always dangerous Cayon Lions. Ghetto Roots led from start to finish as they enjoyed a comfortable 46-33 lead at halftime. The second half was all Ghetto Roots as they kept Cayon at bey throughout. Berlie Francis and Rymal Bally Browne had excellent contributions as Francis had 15 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out late in the 4th quarters and Browne led the team with 3 assists to go with 14 points. Tyrone O Loughlin led the way for Cayon with 17 points while teammate Jamone Isaac had 9 points and Bruce Jeffers had 11 rebounds. I am very pleased with the game and the performance of the guys said Ghetto Roots team manager Wallis Wilkin. This is the first time we have played in an organized setting as a team. It has been well over 12 years since a club has been able to achieve this feat. Early predictions have already penciled at least one of the two teams as early favorites for the Divisions final four playoffs. In other games a local national Junior select team played against a St.Croix under 15 team in the last of a 3 game tour by the St.Croix youngsters. The Cruzan boys lost all 3 games including a 71-50 lost on Sunday evening.
