 | Bequia All Stars win the Grenadines Basketball championship | |

They failed to deliver on the four previous occasions but last weekend it all favoured them. Bequia paved their way into the Final beating Mustique Icon 62:57 in the semis. Meanwhile Union Island All Stars also booked their Final spot. They overcame Canouan Islanders 78:69 to set up an exciting Final matchup. Bequia beat the odds and grabbed an impressive 69:57 victory to claim the crown. Otice Lewis nailed 19 points to pace the victors. Philmon Taylor came up with game-high 21 points for the Union Island in defeat. Mustique Icon triumphed in the Bronze medals game. They outgunned Canouan Islanders 84:76. The tournament's awards were given out after the Final. Damian Harry from Canouan Islanders was trumped the tournament's MVP. He averaged 36.4 points and 8.6 boards per game. The basketball action will tip off again on July 12th. Bequia will enjoy the Tenth Anniversary Tournament. |

The Pistons received a major setback early in the game as Chauncey Billups fell awkwardly after the collision with Jameer Nelson and left the game with a strained right hamstring. He never returned to action and the absence of their leader influenced the game of the Pistons. Rashard Lewis nailed 12 points out of the last 14 points in the first half as the Magic grabbed a 54:42 lead at halftime. Lewis knocked down 33 points, collected 6 boards and issued 5 assists to lead the Magic as they coasted to an overall win in the second half. Dwight Howard provided 20 points and 12 boards for the winners. Richard Hamilton scored 24 points for Detroit. Tayshaun Prince secured 22 points and 7 rebounds in defeat. The Pistons remained hopeful Chauncey Billups would take part in Game 4 on Saturday. Before that Detroit rushed to a 2-0 lead in the series against Orlando. The Pistons got 28 points from Chauncey Billups to knock the Magic down 100:93 for the second straight win in Motown. The hosts led comfortably by 14 points in the first half but Orlando cut the margin to 2 late in regulation. However Rashard Lewis and Dwight Howard both missed attempts. Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups scored three free throws then to put the hosts up by 5 and Orlando never threatened the lead. Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace had 17 points apiece for the winners. Dwight Howard scored 22 points and grabbed 18 boards for the Magic. For only 3 minutes played Adonal Foyle could make 2 shots and collected 1 rebound. |

by Eurobasket News - Oct 13, 2007 | |  | Vincentian import in Irish Superleague Michael Bonaparte (196-F-82, college: Coll.of the Ozarks) was outstanding in the first game for his Killester leading them to a 88:77 road win over Marian. Michael Bonaparte netted game-high 32 points for the winners. The defending champs will next face Neptune in the second round on October 13th. Meanwhile another Vincentian basketball star Adonal Foyle (207-F-75, college: Colgate) tipped off NBA pre-season with the Orlando Magic. The Magic already played three exhibition games and posted two victories. They began their pre-season action against Atlanta Hawks and were narrowly beaten 93:94. Adonal Foyle logged 15 minutes on the floor and nailed 11 points. He converted 4/7 FG, 3/4 FT, grabbed 6 boards and dished out an assist. Orlando then took on Charlotte Bobcats and stormed past them 123:99. Vincentian centre appeared in the starting five and spent 23 minutes on the court. He managed 14 points (5/7 FG, 4/5 FT), 8 boards, 3 blocks and 2 assists. Orlando continued their winning attitude against Miami Heat as they drove past them 102:69. Adonal Foyle produced 3 points (1/2 FG, 1/2 FT) and 6 boards in 13 minutes of action. Orlando will next play against Cleveland Cavaliers on October 17th. |

 | St. Vincent enjoys Bequia Basketball tournament | |

by Eurobasket News - Sep 21, 2007 | |  | St. Vincent basketball fans had a chance to enjoy some action during couple of days when Bequia Basketball tournament took part on the island. First the Second Division title was at stake. Gladiatorz faced Rising Stars in the decider. Gladiatorz emerged stronger grabbing two wins to secure victory in best-of-three series. Ben Andrews produced 24 points and 3 steals in the second game as Gladiatorz posted a confident 69:52 win. The First Division title once again belonged to Duke. They overcame East Blazers 2-0 in the best-of-three final series to claim the crown. Gosnel Gumbs paced Duke with 24 points in Game 2 when they outscored their opponents 73:66. East Blazers responded with 19 points from Michael Peniston.
After the winners became known it was the hightime to distribute awards. Young Duke's Damien Lewis recieved the Second Division MVP award. He averaged 19 points and 14 boards per game. Ben Andrews was named Final's MVP. Craiglee Sam from the Stars grabbed the First Division MVP award. His stats come up to 22 points and 5 boards per game during the competition. Final's MVP was handed to Bradford Duncan. |

 | Whitsuntide Invitational Basketball Tournament tips off | |

by Eurobasket News - Jun 8, 2007 | |  | The annual Whitsuntide Invitational Basketball tournament just started on St. Vincent. The tournament comprised the best teams around the islands. Among them Bequia All Stars, Calliaquia United, Mustique Icons and Kingstown Combine. The competition is held at the Old Montrose Basketball Court. The opening game enjoyed the battle of Mustique Icons and Calliaquia United. The United got off to a perfect start posting a confident 86:66. Isham McKee produced 26 points to lead the winners. Damian Ottley added 23 points for the United. The Icons replied with 21 points from Kevin Carr. Later Beqiua All Stars took on the Kingstown Combine. The first half finished with a slight All Stars' advantage 41:40. However the Combine switched on the full-court press in the second half and Bequia were unable to solve it. In a foul-trouble dying stages Kinstown secured a tough 82:74 victory. Bradford Duncan had 25 points in a win. Orlando Ferguson paced the Combine with 21 points. Craiglee Sam led the All Stars with 16 points. In the game for the third place Belaquia overcame the Mustique Icons 64:55. Craiglee Sam once again chipped in team-high 25 points. Kendall Cumberbatch secured 21 points in a losing effort. The final game was postponed because of rain. The decisive encounter will be preceded by the friendly game between Fitz Hughes Eruptions and Street Fighters. This is going to be one of the series of friendliest scheduled before the opening of the National championship in August. |

 | Union Island All Stars become new champions | |

by Eurobasket News - May 26, 2007 | |  | The Grenadines enjoyed a spectacular sport show as the best basketball teams competed for the Hairoun Duna competition title. Union Island All Stars managed to celebrate a tough victory in the Final to become the new champs. They first overcame Bequia All Stars 58:39 in the semifinal. Later on Union snatched a difficult win over Carriacou 69:58. The defending champions Mustique Icons were the renouned favorites of the upcoming tournament. However they did not succeed in confirming the title after Carriacou suprisingly upset them 55:52 in the semis. The Icon were not able to grab even the Bronze as they were beaten 51:68 by Bequia All Stars in the 3rd place encounter. The Union Island All Stars became the most titled team in the tournament history. They acquired the main prize for the three times since the competition tipped off in 2003 (2003, 2004, 2007). Owen Isaacs was named the tourney's MVP. He grabbed impressive 81 rebounds and made 18 blocks throughout the competition.

by Eurobasket News - May 12, 2007 | |  | Grenadines enjoy the basketball show at the moment. The fifth Annual Hairoun Duna Grenadines Basketball Championship started last week in Ashton. Union All-Stars are among the participants, also four teams from Grenadine take part in the tourney. Among them defending champs Tommy Hilfiger Mustique Icon, Carriacou United, the Bequia All-Stars, Mayreau Kings, Canouan Islanders. Union All-Stars got off to a perfect start winning three opening encounters. The tournament will be run till May 20. The Final is scheduled to be played in Bequia. The games are also played in Canouan and Mustique. |
