Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out tips off- March 29, 2014The 13th Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out tipped off on Thursday evening, March 27, at the JSC Sports Complex. In the opening game, St. Kitts women blew out the young rookies of CPTSA Wings 49 -12. Although it was a one-sided affair, the young Wings girls, who obviously were inexperienced, at this level of basketball, and playing against a hard seasoned opponent like St. Kitts, kept the fairly good crowd entertained with their determination and fearlessness. Trisha Ghanie and Jessica Greene shot 4 points each for Wings, while Jahtysha Nesbitt contributed 2 pts and 7 rebounds and Michlene Zouetr 2 pts and 3 rebounds. For St. Kitts, Sheniqua Caesar dominated the shooting with 21 pts; Alicia Wigley 12 pts, 11 rebounds and 5 steals, and Diana Palmer 10 assists. The second game of the night between Le Femme Braves and Lady Vipers was, although much more competitive, was a lacklustre performance in terms of execution of skills. It was obvious that the senior Antiguan women basketball players lacked much practice, in particular missing several simple lay-ups and repeated field goal attempts. However, Lady Vipers with a bit more experience came out with the victory 44 35. Amanda Edwards (88) emerged with a game high 15pts with 5 assists, and Tyechai Lake 9pts and 9 rebounds for Lady Vipers. For Le Femme Braves, 14pts and 10 rebounds and Tyea Ladoo ended the night with 12pts and 14 rebounds. The 13th Annual Gillian Brazier Basketball Shoot-Out continues tonight at the JSC Sports Complex: 1st. Game: CPTSA Wings Vs Lady Vipers at 6:00P.M. 2nd Game: St. Kitts Vs Le Femme Braves at 7:00 P.M. |
