ABBA Round 15 (Regular Season): Ottos keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Ottos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Ottos smashed 7th ranked Slam at home 98-62. Ottos made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 30 Slam turnovers and outrebounded them 57-45 including 20 on the offensive glass. Ottos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for guard Danny Perez who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 7 rebounds. Christian Walker helped adding 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Ottos' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Keaddy Martin with 15 points and 9 rebounds. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Slam lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Slam will play next round against strong Flyers trying to get back on the winning streak. Ottos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

It was an exceptional evening for guard Danny Perez who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Christian Walker accounted for 17 points and 16 rebounds. Ottos' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Sam Taylor (178-1997, college: NMU) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for Cutie Ovals in the defeat. Ottos keep a position of league leader. Cutie Ovals at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost.
A very close game took place in between Red Hawks and DA-Project. Sixth ranked Red Hawks (3-4) got a very close victory on the road over 5th ranked DA-Project (4-4). Red Hawks managed to escape with a 1-point win 73-72 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of DA-Project. The best player for the winners was Cohen Desouza who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was Terry Dawkins who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds. DA-Project's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Red Hawks maintains sixth place with 3-4 record. Loser DA-Project keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Red Hawks will meet at home higher ranked Lava SSW (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. DA-Project will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 15: Cutie Ovals destroyed Navigators on the opponent's court 126-48. Flyers managed to outperform Lava SSW in a home game 86-79. Winless Navigators recorded a loss to Slam on the road 86-76.




Navigators - Cutie Ovals 48-126

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Navigators (0-8) were crushed at home by first ranked Cutie Ovals (6-3) 126-48 on Thursday. Cutie Ovals held Navigators to an opponent 24.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 50.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Cutie Ovals forced 32 Navigators turnovers and outrebounded them 71-49 including a 45-32 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cutie Ovals looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Navigators' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cutie Ovals made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American point guard Sam Taylor (178-1997, college: NMU) who had a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import guard Jabiri Smith (198, college: Shorter) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Taylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Cutie Ovals players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Michael Barton who recorded 7 points and 18 rebounds and Beniah Mark added 12 points respectively. Navigators' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Despite that victory Cutie Ovals went down to third position due to points difference. Loser Navigators still closes the standings with eight games lost.

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Flyers and 4th placed Lava SSW had identical 5-2 record. This time Flyers used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from 86-79 on Sunday night. Flyers forced 26 Lava SSW turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Lava SSW's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Flyers made 9 blocks.
