Velez Sarsfield take the title - Dec 29, 2009 Velez Sarsfield became the new Liga National champions. They defeated Union Florida 77:71 in the exciting title decider. Lanus claimed the third overall spot overcoming Talleres in overtime. Velez got to a flying start. They quickly took a 12:1 lead and stayed in charge throughout the opening frame. The scoreboard read 22:15 at the first break for Velez. Velez maintained the distance and enjoyed a 32:23 advantage midway through the second stanza. But gradually Union Florida erased the deficit. They were more effective defensively late in the first half and cut the distance to just one point 37:38 at the interval. The teams stayed close in the third period. Velez arrived at the final pause up by 2 points 59:57. Union Florida made an 8:2 run early in the fourth quarter to surge in front. But Sandra Pavon (175-F-85) and Mariana Cava (168-G-85) helped Velez quickly restore the lead. Ornella Santana (184-F/C-90) and Macarena Rosset (178-G/F-90) came up with timely buckets late in regulation and Velez snatched to a narrow win at the end. Paula Reggiardo (84) knocked down 24 points to lead the champions. Mariana Cava finished with 17 points in the victory. Daniela Benvenuto (85) responded with 23 points for Union Florida.
