There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in La Liga. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and derby games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked La Union as it allowed them to take a leadership position. La Union defeated 4th ranked Regatas Corrientes in Formosa 93-81. American point guard Coron Williams (185-89, college: Wake Forest) fired 24 points for the winners. Naturalized Italian swingman Anibal Marin (199-82) chipped in 21 points. The former international Paolo Quinteros (188-79) produced 16 points for lost side. Regatas Corrientes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. La Union have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Regatas Corrientes at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Quilmes MP and Argentino. Regatas Corrientes will play next round against Comunicaciones trying to get back on the winning streak. La Union will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Estudiantes C. in Concordia.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Quimsa (4-3) in Santiado del Estero. Hosts were defeated by Instituto (4-1) 84-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Quimsa. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Facundo Pinero (200-88) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 4 assists. Leandro Garcia-Morales contributed with 16 points for the winners. The former international point guard Nicolas De-los-Santos (180-88) replied with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Quimsa. Instituto keeps a position of league leader. Quimsa at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Gimnasia and Estudiantes C.. Instituto will play against Olimpico de La Banda (#5) at home in the next round. Quimsa will have a break next round.
A very close game took place in Buenos Aires between Hispano Am. and Obras Basket. Fifth ranked Hispano Am. (1-5) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd ranked Obras Basket (2-3). Hispano Am. managed to escape with a 1-point win 111-110 on Thursday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Daniel Hure who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side Maurice Kemp responded with 43 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Obras Basket's coach Gregorio Martinez tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hispano Am. maintains fifth position with 1-5 record. Loser Obras Basket keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Boca Jrs. Hispano Am. will meet at home higher ranked Boca Juniors (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Obras Basket will play again against Hispano Am. in Rio Gallegos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very interesting game took place in Bahia Blanca. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked Penarol (4-2) to third ranked Weber Bahia (3-2) 72-71 on Friday evening. The winners were led by Facundo Corvalan who scored that evening 23 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Weber Bahia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 3-2 record behind leader San Lorenzo. Penarol at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Weber Bahia's next round opponent will be again league's leader Penarol in Mar del Plata and it will be for sure the game of the week.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Corrientes: San Martin Corrientes (#3) and Regatas Corrientes (#4). San Martin Corrientes (4-2) won against visiting Regatas Corrientes (2-4) 88-77. Lee Roberts fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Martin Corrientes have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Regatas Corrientes keeps the fourth place with four games lost. San Martin Corrientes will have a break next round. Regatas Corrientes will play at home against Comunicaciones (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 4 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
San Lorenzo defeated Ferrocarril in Almagra 64-60. Olimpico LB was beaten by Instituto at home 67-78. Atenas won against Libertad S. on the opponent's court 79-72. Argentino unfortunately lost to Penarol in a home game 72-82. San Lorenzo managed to beat Boca Jrs on the road 85-79. Comunicaciones was defeated by La Union on its own court 81-85. Quilmes MP was smashed by Gimnasia in Comodoro Rivadavia 83-59. Estudiantes C. lost to San Martin C. at home 84-89.
The best stats of 4th round was 21 points and 9 rebounds by Adrian Boccia of Boca Jrs.



Obras Basket - Hispano Am. 110-111

A very close game took place in Buenos Aires between Hispano Am. and Obras Basket. Fifth ranked Hispano Am. (1-5) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd ranked Obras Basket (2-3). Hispano Am. managed to escape with a 1-point win 111-110 on Thursday evening. Hispano Am. made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Daniel Hure (200-85) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Justin Hurtt (194-88, college: Tulsa, agency: HMS) who added 29 points and 4 steals during the contest. Five Hispano Am. players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Maurice Kemp (203-91, college: E.Carolina, agency: Duran International) responded with 43 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!) and his fellow American import power forward Eric Anderson (204-93, college: New Haven, agency: Duran International) scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Obras Basket's coach Gregorio Martinez tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hispano Am. maintains fifth position with 1-5 record. Loser Obras Basket keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Boca Jrs. Hispano Am. will meet at home higher ranked Boca Juniors (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Lorenzo made 9 blocks. International point guard Nicolas Aguirre (188-88) fired 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American center Jerome Meyinsse (207-88, college: Virginia, agency: IPZ) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Five Instituto players scored in double figures. Instituto's coach Facundo Muller used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international point guard Maximiliano Stanic (178-78) produced 11 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and American-FYR Macedonian forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St.) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Instituto keeps a position of league leader. Loser Olimpico de La Banda keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Instituto will have a break next round.
