The Regular Season in La Liga Argentina just started. The round was exceptionally exciting as six games ended with a tiny margin. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise of round 1 in La Liga Argentina took place in Olavarria where host Estudiantes O. (1-0) edged Ciclista (1-1) 74-71 on Monday evening. 28 personal fouls committed by Ciclista helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Agustin Brocal (190-97) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. point guard Andres Lugli (170-95) chipped in 6 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Josiah Whitehead (198-86, college: Robert Morris) produced 18 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Ciclista's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ciclista will play next round against strong Rocamora trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Estudiantes O. will try to continue on its current victory against Gimnasia LP in La Plata.
CA Platense edged Chivilcoy Racing in Florida 76-74. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Pablo Bruna (185-87) who helped to win the game recording 9 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Alejandro Pappalardi contributed with 19 points for the winners. Guard Erbel De-Pietro (183-88) answered with 23 points for Chivilcoy Racing. Chivilcoy Racing will play next round against strong Rocamora trying to get back on the winning streak. CA Platense will try to continue on its current victory against Parque Sur at Concepcion de Urug..
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Independiente (1-1) in Santiago del Estero on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Hindu (2-0) 66-57. George Valentine stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Federico Mansilla responded with 20 points. Independiente's coach Javier Montenegro tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hindu will meet Villa San Martin (#4) in the next round. Independiente will play again against Hindu in Chaco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
We should not miss the game where Olimpico (1-1) against Salta Basket (0-2) where Olimpico won on the road by thirteen points 96-83. Pablo Martinez nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Olimpico's next round opponent will be Obera TC (#3) at home, which may be the game of the day. Salta Basket will play against Obera TC and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the La Liga just one year after relegation.
And finally the game worth to mention about is the one where CA Platense (#2) beat La Union (1-1) on the road by 6 points 80-74 on Friday evening. Alejandro Pappalardi fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. La Union's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. CA Platense will face Parque Sur (#7) in Concepcion de Urug. in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. La Union will play on the road against Parque Sur (#7) in Concepcion de Urug. and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 1 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Olimpico Ceres was defeated by Independiente in Santiago del Estero 88-83. Winless Salta Basket lost to undefeated Hindu at home 90-97. Winless Chivilcoy Racing lost to Ciclista on the opponent's court 84-87. Obera TC unfortunately lost to Villa San Martin in a home game 71-75. Villa San Martin recorded a loss to Obera TC on the road 72-78. La Union defeated Gimnasia LP on its own court 86-83. Winless Parque Sur lost to undefeated Rocamora in a road game 65-68. Deportivo Viedma won against Rivadavia M. at home 77-68. Winless Rivadavia M. lost to undefeated Atenas Carmen on the opponent's court 56-83. C.Espanol P. managed to beat Petrolero in a home game 83-80. C.Espanol P. defeated Progreso Roca on the road 97-93. Barrio Parque beat San Isidro on its own court 82-73. Winless BHY Tiro Federal lost to undefeated Deportivo Norte in Armstrong 67-74. Union SF outscored Echague at home 102-78. Union SF recorded a loss to San Isidro on the opponent's court 82-65. Sportivo America defeated BHY Tiro Federal in a home game 90-73.

Independiente - Hindu 57-66

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Independiente (1-1) in Santiago del Estero on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Hindu (2-0) 66-57. There was a minor upset in Santiago del Estero where Olimpico (1-1) was defeated by Independiente (1-1) 88-83 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Olimpico won third quarter 26-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Independiente looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Federico Mansilla (191-87) fired 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Uruguayan power forward Bruno Ingratta (200-95) chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: Ouachita Baptist) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Pablo Martinez (197-82) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Independiente and five Olimpico players scored in double figures. Independiente will face Hindu in Chaco in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Olimpico will play at home against Obera TC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American forward Scott Cutley (196-85, college: CS Fullerton) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the former international point guard Diego Gerbaudo (178-89) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Five Hindu and four Salta Basket players scored in double figures. Hindu will face Independiente in Santiago del Estero in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Chivilcoy Racing was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Maximiliano Rios (182-81) fired 24 points for the winners. American forward Corbin Jackson (203-92, college: Florida Tech) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Jackson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Carlos Paredes (192-92) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and guard Erbel De Pietro (183-88) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Four Ciclista and five Chivilcoy Racing players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ciclista will face Rocamora (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Chivilcoy Racing will play against Rocamora and hope to win that game.
