Argentina Basketball Team Already Has Rivals For The China 2019 World Cup - Mar 27, 2019

As the final window for the FIBA basketball world cup 2019 in China just concluded, Argentina already has its work cut out. The 32-team tournament will see Argentina face South Korea, Nigeria, and Russia in Group B, scheduled to take place in China's metropolis, Wuhan. As such, college ball betting fans will want to check this out alongside other games in the FIBA world cup.

According to Argentina's Coach Sergio Hernandez, his team is not expecting to face easy opponents at the 2019 world cup in China. In his statement, the veteran coach revealed that his team understands that every game is crucial in the world cup, despite being one of the top seeds in Saturday's draw. Hernandez is preparing his team to be up to the required standards for an excellent performance in the court.

In Group B, the toughest opponent for the South Americans will be the European team, Russia. The Russian team is 10 th in the FIBA rankings, and they emerged fourth at the FIBA Eurobasket 2017. Russia sealed its ticket to the big stage on the final day of the world cup qualifiers after prevailing over Finland with a 91-76 victory.

With coach Sergey Bazarevich calling the shots, the European team will be returning at the world stage after nine years. The team poses a huge threat to Argentina, with players like Vitaly Fridzon, Dmitry Khvostov and Andrey Vorontsevich having the first-hand experience in the world cup. The trio represented Russia at the world cup tournaments in 2010, and they also played a huge role in helping the European powerhouse navigate the 2019 FIBA world cup qualifiers.

Another member of the Russian team in the 2010 world cup is Timofey Mozgov, who also played a role in the country's qualifying campaign. Together, these players have proven that they can get their team out of the most difficult situations, despite being knocked out in the quarter-final by the US in Istanbul in 2010.

On the other side, the Asian team, Korea ranks 32 nd in the FIBA rankings, and it took third place in the FIBA Asia Cup 2017. The African team in the group was the first runners up in the FIBA AfroBasket 2017, and currently ranks 33 rd in the world ranking. Nonetheless, both teams will be a force to reckon with for any team planning to qualify for the second round.

Argentina was the first runners up at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup competition, and they had a fantastic Americas Qualifiers campaign, winning nine out of 12 games to secure their spot. Since 1986, the South American country has appeared for the world cup, and they almost took the title in 2002 in Indianapolis. However, they lost to Yugoslavia in the final.

In 2006, Argentina almost reached the final in Japan, but they lost the eventual winners, Spain after Andres Nocioni missed a 3-pointer. The South Americans were 11 th in 2014 at the tournament, playing under the leadership of head coach Julio Lamas.

This year, the team believes they'll do a very good job with the experience of head coach Sergio Hernandez.
