There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in La Liga. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between third ranked Gimnasia (22-15) and fifteenth ranked Hispano Am. (14-22) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Gimnasia was defeated by Hispano Am. in a tough game in Rio Gallegos 76-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gimnasia. Hispano Am. made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American power forward Devon Scott (206-94, college: Philander Smith) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 9 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Patricio Tabarez (195-91) contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Dominican center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds for Gimnasia. Hispano Am. moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Bahia Basket. Gimnasia at the other side dropped to the fourth position with 15 games lost. Hispano Am. is looking forward to face higher ranked Boca Juniors (#8) in Buenos Aires in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gimnasia will play on the road against Obras Basket (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Bottom-ranked Quilmes MP managed to get a twelfth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. This time they won against thirteenth-ranked La Union in Mar del Plata 89-79. It was a great evening for American guard Winsome Frazier (193-82, college: Mississippi St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Sebastian Morales helped adding 18 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Quilmes MP's coach Javier Bianchelli allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: WVU, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Quilmes MP (12-24) moved-up to seventeenth place, which they share with Atenas and Penarol. La Union at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 21 games lost. Quilmes MP's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Mar del Plata to the arena Penarol.

It was a quality performance for Nicolas Aguirre who led the winners and scored 20 points and 5 assists. Anthony-Laveal Johnson came up with 19 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for Bahia Basket in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 30-5 record. Loser Bahia Basket keeps the fourteenth position with 22 games lost. They share it with Hispano Am.. San Lorenzo will meet at home league's second-placed Ferro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bahia Basket will play against Argentino (#16) in Junin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Instituto (21-13) and Estudiantes C. (19-16), which took place in Concordia. Higher ranked Instituto lost to tenth ranked Estudiantes C. in a road game 89-97. The best player for the winners was Daviyon Draper who scored 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Estudiantes C. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Boca Jrs. Instituto at the other side keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Estudiantes C.'s next round opponent will be Atenas (#17) in Cordoba and are hoping to win another game. Instituto will play on the road against Libertad Sunchales (#20) and hope to win that game.
Another upset was a game between Regatas Corrientes (21-16) and San Martin Corrientes (19-18), which took place in Corrientes. Higher ranked Regatas Corrientes lost at home to tenth ranked San Martin Corrientes 73-79 on Thursday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Regatas Corrientes. Lucas Faggiano orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 5 assists and 7 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Martin Corrientes maintains tenth place with 19-18 record. Loser Regatas Corrientes dropped to the seventh position with 16 games lost. San Martin Corrientes will face La Union (#13) in Formosa in the next round.

In the last two games of round 35 Bahia Basket was beaten by Ferro on the road 87-80. Bottom-ranked Libertad S. lost to Atenas on its own court 81-85.



San Lorenzo - Bahia Basket 110-76

La Liga top team - San Lorenzo (30-5) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed fourteenth ranked Bahia Basket (14-22) in Almagra 110-76. San Lorenzo made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. San Lorenzo outrebounded Bahia Basket 40-22 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. San Lorenzo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Bahia Basket's players. It was a quality performance for the former international point guard Nicolas Aguirre (188-88) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 5 assists. The former international point guard Jose Vildoza (190-96, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 11 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. Five San Lorenzo players scored in double figures. No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Ferro (23-14) beat 14th ranked Bahia Basket (14-22) in Buenos Aires 87-80 on Thursday. Ferro made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Bahia Basket was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Mariano Fierro (200-86) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Luciano Massarelli (183-93) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Five Ferro players scored in double figures. Federico Elias (187-99) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) and point guard Facundo Corvalan (190-98) added 18 points and 6 assists in the effort for Bahia Basket. Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both nineteenth ranked Atenas and 20th ranked Libertad Sunchales had identical 11-24 record. But Libertad Sunchales was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Cordoba 85-81 on Friday night. Atenas made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. The former international Nicolas Romano (200-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Power forward Fernando Martina (200-81) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Atenas players scored in double figures. San Martin de Curuzu Cuatia (TFB) confirmed in their roster 29-year old guard Franco Aguirre (190-90). He has played there for two seasons. In the last one, he played for AMAD de Goya. He averaged 6.2 points, 1.6 assists and 0.8 rebounds. Aguirre is a very experienced player. He also played for Olimpia de Paranabefore moving to San Martin for the first time.
