The Regular Season in La Liga just ended. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most shocking disappointment of round 36 was a home defeat of 3rd ranked Obras Basket (22-16) to fourth ranked Gimnasia (23-15) 96-91. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Gimnasia made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Obras Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Sebastian Vega (200-88) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and Dominican center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) who added 11 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was point guard Pedro Barral (187-94) with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Gimnasia moved-up to second place, which they share with Comunicaciones and Ferro. Obras Basket lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 16 games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Almagra. First ranked host San Lorenzo (32-6) smashed second-best Ferro (23-15) 105-77. The winners were led by the former international point guard Nicolas Aguirre (188-88) who scored that evening 8 points, 6 rebounds and 14 assists and Ramon Clemente supported him with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds by American power forward Charles Mitchell (203-93, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Slash Sports) did not help to save the game for Ferro. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Lorenzo have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 32-6 record. Ferro at the other side keeps the second place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Comunicaciones and Gimnasia.
Seventeenth-ranked Atenas (12-26) gave a tough game to ninth ranked Estudiantes C. (20-18) in Concordia on Sunday. Estudiantes C. managed to secure only three-point victory 77-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Leandro Vildoza who scored 22 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was JJ Moore who recorded 17 points and 6 rebounds. Estudiantes C. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Boca Jrs. Loser Atenas dropped to the eighteenth position with 26 games lost. They share it with Quilmes MP.
A very interesting game took place in Junin. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 16th ranked Argentino (14-24) to fourteenth ranked Bahia Basket (15-23) 78-75 on Sunday evening. It was a good game for Facundo Corvalan who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 8 assists. Bahia Basket's coach Sebastian Ginobili allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Bahia Basket maintains fourteenth position with 15-23 record, which they share with Hispano Am. Argentino at the other side keeps the sixteenth place with 24 games lost.
An interesting game took place in Formosa where 10th ranked San Martin Corrientes (19-19) was upset on the court of thirteenth ranked La Union (17-21) 97-80 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of John Flowers who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. La Union maintains thirteenth position with 17-21 record, which they share with Libertad S. Loser San Martin Corrientes keeps the tenth place with 19 games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 36: Regatas C. was destroyed by Comunicaciones on the opponent's court 99-78. Hispano Am. was outscored by Boca Jrs in a home game 65-86. Instituto rolled over Libertad S. on the road 104-69. Penarol defeated Quilmes MP on its own court 95-89. Olimpico LB smashed Quimsa in La Banda 87-63.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 11 points by Jonatan Machuca of Olimpico LB.

Quimsa - Olimpico LB 63-87

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Santiado del Estero where 11th ranked Quimsa (18-20) was outplayed by twelfth ranked Olimpico de La Banda (18-20) 87-63 on Sunday. Olimpico de La Banda outrebounded Quimsa 37-24 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Emiliano Basabe (193-92) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American-North Macedonian Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St.) who added 19 points during the contest. Four Olimpico de La Banda players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Nicolas De-los-Santos (180-88) with 15 points and 5 assists and the former international point guard Juan Brussino (185-91) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Olimpico de La Banda moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Quimsa. Quimsa lost fifth consecutive game.
