LDD Round 18: Weber Bahia keeps a leadership position

The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Weber Bahia as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Weber Bahia defeated 15th ranked La Union in Bahia Blanca 99-92. Point guard Ezequiel Paz (190-1, agency: Interperformances) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and Brazilian center Gabriel Novaes (208-1) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Weber Bahia's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Franco Fragozo (198-1) with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Weber Bahia (12-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. La Union lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with 12 games lost. La Union will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Weber Bahia will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked San Martin in Corrientes.
Important game to mention about took place in Buenos Aires. Seventh ranked Ferro (10-4) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 10th ranked Estudiantes (9-11) 68-65 on Saturday evening. Forward Juan-Martin Bello (200-99) notched 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and Ignacio Varisco supported him with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Ferro's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 26 points by Venezuelan center Enderson Alcala (193-1) did not help to save the game for Estudiantes. Ferro maintains seventh position with 10-4 record. Estudiantes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Ferro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Estudiantes will play on the road against Obras (#6) in Buenos Aires and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Cordoba between Libertad and Atenas. Eleventh ranked Libertad (9-7) got a very close victory on the road over 14th ranked Atenas (6-9). Libertad managed to escape with a 3-point win 89-86 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Julian Eydallin who scored 21 points and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Federico Colla who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Atenas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Libertad moved-up to tenth place. Atenas at the other side keeps the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Libertad will meet higher ranked Instituto (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Atenas will have a break next round.
A very interesting game took place in Florida. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 20th ranked Platense (1-14) to nineteenth ranked H.Americano (3-16) 88-85 on Thursday evening. It was a good game for L Cerminatto who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. Platense's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. H.Americano moved-up to eighteenth place. Platense lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. H.Americano will have a break next round. Platense will play at home against Boca Jrs. (#13) and hope to win that game.
An interesting game took place in Junin where higher ranked Boca Jrs. (7-9) was upset on the court of eighteenth ranked Argentino (3-14) 103-98 on Saturday. Franco Montemagio scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Boca Jrs.'s coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Argentino moved-up to seventeenth place. Loser Boca Jrs. keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Argentino will face higher ranked San Lorenzo (#5) in Almagra in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 18: Argentino lost to Comunicaciones on the opponent's court 78-91. Penarol outscored Estudiantes in a home game 85-54. La Union recorded a loss to Penarol on the road 81-69.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 24 points and 9 rebounds by Tomas Monacchi of Penarol.



Comunicaciones - Argentino 91-78

Very expected game in Mercedes where 18th ranked Argentino (3-14) was defeated by third ranked Comunicaciones (12-5) 91-78 on Wednesday. Comunicaciones looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Argentino's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Comunicaciones made 7 blocks. Forward Franco Maeso (197-1) scored 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and guard Juan-Manuel Bejar (186-1) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Franco Montemagio (183-2) with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and forward Enzo Filipetti (198-1) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Comunicaciones and four Argentino players scored in double figures. Comunicaciones moved-up to second place. Loser Argentino dropped to the seventeenth position with 14 games lost. A very interesting game took place in Florida. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 20th ranked Platense (1-14) to nineteenth ranked H.Americano (3-16) 88-85 on Thursday evening. H.Americano made 21-of-24 charity shots (87.5 percent) during the game. H.Americano outrebounded Platense 45-34 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Penarol's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was Uruguayan forward Nahuel Lemos (205-99) with 12 points and 9 rebounds and Venezuelan center Enderson Alcala (193-1) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds.
