La Liga Argentina Round 21: C.Espanol P. keeps a leadership position in their group

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked C.Espanol P. as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Liga Argentina. C.Espanol P. defeated 7th ranked Atenas in Plottier 94-81. C.Espanol P. dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Atenas' 38. 28 personal fouls committed by Atenas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for guard Agustin Perez (192-99) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). American Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. C.Espanol P.'s coach Mauricio Santangelo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mauricio Corzo (195-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for Atenas. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Atenas at the other side keeps the seventh place with 19 games lost. Atenas will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. C.Espanol P. will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Petrolero in Plaza Huincul.

Juan Kelly came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds for Barrio Parque in the defeat. Tiro Federal maintains seventh place in Liga Argentina with 5-16 record. Loser Barrio Parque dropped to the fourth position with ten games lost. Tiro Federal will meet at home league's second-placed Ameghino in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barrio Parque will play against Salta Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Sp.America managed to beat Echague at home 84-73. CAO Ceres was defeated by Independiente on the opponent's court 78-71. C.Entrerriano smashed Racing in a home game 85-66. Villa Mitre destroyed Del Progreso on the road 107-84. Estudiantes O. managed to outperform Quilmes MP on its own court 82-73. GELP recorded a loss to Parque Sur in Concepcion de Urug. 85-67. Rocamora defeated GELP at home 92-79. Racing beat Rocamora on the opponent's court 102-87. Parque Sur won against Racing in a home game 79-69. Atenas was outscored by Del Progreso on the road 104-66. Quilmes MP recorded a loss to Estudiantes O. on its own court 93-97.

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Ameghino (12-9) crushed 6th ranked Rivadavia (5-15) in Villa Maria 88-67 on Sunday. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Rivadavia's players. There was a minor upset when 5th ranked GELP (9-14) lost on the road to seventh ranked Rocamora (8-15) 92-79 on Monday. Rocamora dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to GELP's 28. They outrebounded GELP 39-24 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward David Jelks (203, college: Kentucky St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Mauro Araujo (180-94) contributed with 11 points and 7 assists for the winners. Rocamora's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Nicolas Remolina (180-98) answered with 18 points and 5 assists and Joaquin Rios added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for GELP. Four Rocamora and five GELP players scored in double figures. Rocamora moved-up to sixth place in Liga Argentina. Loser GELP keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost. Rocamora will face higher ranked Villa Mitre (#3) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. GELP will play at home against the league's leader Estudiantes O. and hope to win that game.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked C.Espanol P. as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Liga Argentina. C.Espanol P. defeated 7th ranked Atenas in Plottier 94-81. C.Espanol P. dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Atenas' 38. 28 personal fouls committed by Atenas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for guard Agustin Perez (192-99) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). American Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. C.Espanol P.'s coach Mauricio Santangelo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mauricio Corzo (195-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and Genaro Lorio (190-97) added 18 points in the effort for Atenas. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Atenas at the other side keeps the seventh place with 19 games lost. Atenas will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. C.Espanol P. will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Petrolero in Plaza Huincul.

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Racing (13-8) defeated on the road 7th ranked Rocamora (8-15) 102-87 on Wednesday. Racing shot 66.7 percent from the field and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Racing outrebounded Rocamora 33-19 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Racing especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. It was a good game for American forward Josh Morris (203, college: Texas-PB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Santiago Barrales (189-98) contributed with 27 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Guard Mauro Araujo (180-94) answered with 19 points and forward Agustin Mas-Delfino (194-97) added 15 points in the effort for Rocamora. Five Racing and four Rocamora players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Racing went down to fourth position (Liga Argentina) due to points difference. Loser Rocamora dropped to the sixth place with 15 games lost. Racing will face league's second-placed Parque Sur in Concepcion de Urug. in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rocamora will play at home against Villa Mitre (#3) and hope to win that game.
