LDD Round 19: Weber Bahia lose to Regatas

Top ranked Weber Bahia (14-2) recorded its second loss in Corrientes on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked Regatas (10-6) 103-91. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Weber Bahia. They outrebounded Weber Bahia 55-35 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Center Joaquin Marcon (203-1) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) chipped in 23 points and 8 rebounds. Regatas' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brazilian center Gabriel Novaes (208-1) produced 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for lost side. Regatas maintains ninth place with 10-6 record. Weber Bahia at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Regatas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Weber Bahia will play on the road against La Union in Formosa and is hoping to win this game.

Facundo Tolosa contributed with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Weber Bahia's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Franco Mendez (188-2) answered with 27 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for San Martin. Weber Bahia (14-2) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place. San Martin at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Weber Bahia will play against La Union (#15) in Formosa in the next round which should be an easy win for them. San Martin will have a break next round.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Junin. Local Argentino (3-16) was outscored by fifth ranked San Lorenzo (12-3) 93-58 on Tuesday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Fermin Thygesen who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Enzo Filipetti responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Argentino's coach M Bossa gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for San Lorenzo. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Obras. Loser Argentino dropped to the eighteenth position with 16 games lost. San Lorenzo will meet Libertad (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Argentino will play against Olimpico (#17) in La Banda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 19 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Quimsa crushed Gimnasia in Santiago del Estero 92-68. Obras smashed Estudiantes at home 75-54. Libertad lost to Instituto on the opponent's court 82-99. Bottom-ranked Platense unfortunately lost to Boca Jrs. in a home game 67-75. Penarol managed to beat Olimpico on the road 87-79.

Gimnasia - Quimsa 68-92

There was no surprise in Comodoro Rivadavia where 16th ranked Gimnasia CR (3-12) was crushed by leader Quimsa (13-0) 92-68 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Chilean guard Kevin Rubio (192-0) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Guard Emiliano Toretta (185-1) helped adding 22 points and 4 assists. Four Quimsa players scored in double figures. At the losing side Cuban center Pedro Bombino (207-0, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 26 points and 8 rebounds and E Fernandez scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Quimsa. They maintain second place with 13-0 record behind leader Weber Bahia. Loser Gimnasia CR keeps the sixteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Olimpico. Quimsa will meet at home Penarol (#5) in the next round. Gimnasia CR will play against Ferro (#8) and hope to secure a win.

It was a great evening for Cape Verdean Victor Andrade (203-0) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds. Uruguayan swingman Ignacio Xavier (196-99) helped adding 17 points and 9 rebounds. Obras' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side guard Jaime Brodsky (185-2) responded with 12 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and the former international center Ramiro Rattero (199-0) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Obras. They moved-up to third place, which they share with San Lorenzo. Estudiantes lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. Obras will meet at home Atenas (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Estudiantes will play against Comunicaciones (#6) and hope to secure a win.

Rather expected game in Cordoba where 10th ranked Libertad (9-9) was defeated by eighth ranked Instituto (10-3) 99-82 on Monday. It was a great evening for guard Stefano Bachiochi (196-0) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Juan Tulian (196-0) helped adding 23 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Instituto players scored in double figures. Instituto's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side the former international swingman Julian Eydallin (195-0) responded with 32 points and point guard Facundo Gago (178-96) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Instituto. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Libertad dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. Instituto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Cordoba .
