There was a change at the La Liga Argentina leadership position after last games. Round 25 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Obera TC (18-8). They were edged by fourth ranked Salta Basket (15-12) 101-99 on Friday night. It was a key game for the second position in Liga Argentina. Strangely Obera TC outrebounded Salta Basket 48-34 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Mateo Bolivar (187-92) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 assists for the winners and center Santiago Gonzalez (203-83) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds. Salta Basket's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side guard Emiliano Correa (188-91) responded with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Salta Basket moved-up to second place in Liga Argentina which they share with defeated Obera TC. Obera TC at the other side dropped to the second position with eight games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Estudiantes O.. Obera TC will play next round against Independiente trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Salta Basket will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Sp.America in Rosario.
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Villa S.Martin as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Liga Argentina. Villa S.Martin smashed 5th ranked Independiente in Resistencia 93-56. Forward Sebastian Picton (196-92) nailed 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Tirrell Brown accounted for 18 points. San Isidro's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rivadavia maintains sixth place in Liga Argentina with 9-18 record. Loser San Isidro still keeps top position with 11 games lost. Rivadavia will meet at home higher ranked Union SF (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Isidro will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Racing (16-10) against seventh ranked Ciclista (9-17) on Saturday night. Visiting Racing was defeated by Ciclista in Juninense 91-80. Worth to mention a great performance of Maximiliano Tamburini who helped to win the game recording 32 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Ciclista maintains seventh place in Liga Argentina with 9-17 record. Racing at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. Ciclista's next round opponent will be league's second-placed C.Entrerriano in Gualeguaychu and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Racing will play on the road against C.Espanol P. in Plottier and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of first ranked Dep Viedma (17-12) against fifth ranked GELP (12-15) on Friday night. Visiting Dep Viedma was defeated by GELP in a tough game in La Plata 84-88. Joaquin Rios stepped up and scored 29 points and 4 assists for the winners. GELP maintains fifth place in Liga Argentina with 12-15 record. Loser Dep Viedma dropped to the second position with 12 games lost. There was a minor upset when their close opponent Atenas (10-21) was rolled over on the road by sixth ranked Rocamora (12-15) 83-59 on Friday. Rocamora outrebounded Atenas 39-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Guard Mauro Araujo (180-94) stepped up and scored 16 points for the winners and American forward David Jelks (203, college: Kentucky St.) chipped in 8 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side Mauricio Corzo (195-95) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and Franco Alorda (204-99) scored 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rocamora maintains sixth place in Liga Argentina with 12-15 record which they share with defeated Atenas. Loser Atenas keeps the sixth position with 21 games lost. Rocamora will have a break next round.
