LDD Round 25: Quimsa beat Obras in the most crucial game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santiago del Estero. Leader Quimsa faced 4th placed Obras. Host Quimsa (19-0) defeated guests from Buenos Aires (16-5) 86-82. Quimsa outrebounded Obras 45-29 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Emiliano Toretta (185-1) fired 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Francisco Conrradi (191-3) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Peruvian point guard Juan-Pablo Venegas (183-0) produced 18 points for lost side. Undefeated Quimsa have an impressive series of nineteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 19-0 record. Obras at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Quimsa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Obras will play at home against Gimnasia CR (#14) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Concordia, where higher ranked Boca Jrs. (12-11) lost to twelfth ranked Estudiantes (11-14) in a road game 72-81. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Boca Jrs.. Worth to mention a great performance of Uruguayan forward Nahuel Lemos (205-99) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds. Ramiro Rattero contributed with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Agustin Facello answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Boca Jrs.Estudiantes maintains twelfth place with 11-14 record. Boca Jrs. at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Rio Gallegos. Local H.Americano (3-20) was outscored by sixteenth ranked Gimnasia CR (8-13) 91-67 on Wednesday night. Bernardo Barrera stepped up and scored 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. At the losing side Damian Fernandez responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds. H.Americano's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gimnasia CR. They moved-up to fourteenth place. H.Americano lost their fourth game in a row. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Gimnasia CR will meet higher ranked Obras (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. H.Americano will play against Argentino (#18) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Boca Jrs. defeated Comunicaciones in Buenos Aires 84-78. Argentino was beaten by Platense at home 88-93. San Lorenzo lost to Penarol on the opponent's court 89-94. Olimpico unfortunately lost to Obras in a home game 62-80.



Instituto - Atenas 101-94

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Cordoba: Instituto (#7) and Atenas (#14). Instituto (13-6) won against visiting Atenas (8-14) 101-94. Instituto forced 21 Atenas turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Atenas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Juan-Cruz Oberto (201-97) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 20 rebounds and forward Octavio Sarmiento (198-1) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Atenas in the defeat. There was a minor upset in Mercedes where their close opponent Comunicaciones (12-10) was defeated by eighth ranked Boca Jrs. (12-11) 84-78. Forward Tomas Pereyra (198-0) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and Agustin Facello accounted for 18 points and 9 assists. Brazilian Victor Leal (203-96) came up with 28 points and 9 rebounds and guard Juan-Manuel Bejar (186-1) added 23 points respectively for Comunicaciones in the defeat. Despite that victory Boca Jrs. went down to ninth position due to points difference. Comunicaciones lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Boca Jrs.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Buenos Aires to the arena .

Four Platense players scored in double figures. Forward Enzo Filipetti (198-1) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 19 rebounds and guard Franco Montemagio (183-2) added 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Argentino in the defeat. Platense moved-up to seventeenth place. Argentino at the other side dropped to the eighteenth position with 19 games lost. Platense's next round opponent will be higher ranked Gimnasia CR (#14) in Comodoro Rivadavia and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
