La Liga Argentina Round 5: Tiro Federal hands first loss to Union SF

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Union SF (3-1) in Santa Fe on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by ninth ranked Tiro Federal (2-1) 90-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Union SF. Tiro Federal looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Union SF helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Jorge Banegas (190-93, agency: BIG) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Naturalized Italian Juan Kelly (190-88) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. point guard Andres Jaime (184-0) answered with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for Union SF. Union SF's coach Juan Francisco Ponce rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Tiro Federal moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Union SF at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Tiro Federal is looking forward to face Echague (#10) in Parana in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Union SF will play on the road against Independiente (#14) in Santiago del Estero and is hoping to win this game.
Colon SF's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Independiente (0-3) 80-67. Point guard Ignacio Fernandez (181-89, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 9 points and 15 assists for the winners and D'Monta Harris chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. point guard Damian Palacios (178-85) responded with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Colon SF (1-3) left bottom position moving up to twelfth place. It was Independiente's third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Riachuelo LR. Colon SF will play against higher ranked Villa S.Martin (#5) in Resistencia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Independiente will play at home against the league's leader Union SF (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Estudiantes T.'s fans can celebrate the first win of their team after two consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked San Isidro (1-1) on the road game in San Francisco 85-83 on Tuesday. Gonzalo Alonso nailed 21 points for the winning side. Juan Cruz Oberto came up with 28 points and 6 rebounds for San Isidro in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes T. (1-2) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser San Isidro dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Estudiantes T. will meet at home higher ranked Dep Norte (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Isidro will play against Salta Basket and hope to win that game.
Bottom-ranked Riachuelo LR is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their third consecutive match to leader Barrio Parque (2-0) 65-59. The best player for the winners was Agustin Jure who scored 15 points and 7 assists. Riachuelo LR's coach tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Barrio Parque keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Newly promoted Riachuelo LR still closes the standings with three games lost. Barrio Parque will have a break next round. Riachuelo LR will play at home against the league's second-placed Ameghino (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Rivadavia (1-2) and Parque Sur (2-2), which took place in Concepcion de Urug.. 4th placed Rivadavia lost to tenth ranked Parque Sur in a road game 66-79 on Tuesday. Enzo Filipetti orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Parque Sur's coach Damian Gamarra used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Parque Sur moved-up to fourth place. Loser Rivadavia dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 5 CAO Ceres beat Echague on the road 86-78. Sp.America lost to Villa S.Martin on its own court 62-72.

Echague - CAO Ceres 78-86

Everything could happen in Parana at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Olimpico and 10th ranked Echague had identical 1-1 record. But Echague was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Ceres 86-78 on Tuesday night. Olimpico made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Echague was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Daniel Tabbia (195-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Gonzalo Guevara (196-98) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Olimpico players scored in double figures. Guard Lisandro Ruiz Moreno (185-89) answered with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Facundo Carulla (193-93) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Echague. Echague's coach Oscar Bonell let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Olimpico (2-1) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Echague dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. Olimpico will have a break next round. Echague will play on the road against Tiro Federal (#8) in Morteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Forward Sebastian Picton (196-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Franco Vieta (190-92) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Villa S.Martin players scored in double figures.
