La Liga Argentina Round 20: Top-ranked Union SF wins another game

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

La Liga Argentina top team - Union SF (12-4) managed to deliver another win on Wednesday. This time they beat eighth ranked Dep Norte (5-4) in Santa Fe 94-80. Naturalized Spanish swingman Maximiliano Martin (190-90) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Sebastian Uranga (200-89) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Celestino Cupulutti (186-93, agency: BIG) replied with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Dep Norte. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Union SF maintains first position with 12-4 record. Dep Norte lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in General Roca was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked GELP (7-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Progreso (6-7). GELP managed to secure a 5-point victory 66-61. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Carlos Gianella (181) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 7 rebounds and Pablo Alderete who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Paraguayan center Carlos Baez (202-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. GELP moved-up to fourth place. Progreso lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Sp.America. GELP will play against Atenas (#11) in Carmen de Patagones in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Progreso will play on the road against Rivadavia (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Barrio Parque (8-6) and Sp.America (6-7), which took place in Rosario. 6th ranked Barrio Parque lost to ninth ranked Sp.America in a road game 56-73 on Wednesday. The winners were led by Pablo Fernandez who scored that evening 17 points. Even 12 points and 7 rebounds by Emiliano Rossi did not help to save the game for Barrio Parque. Barrio Parque's coach E Villafane rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sp.America moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Del Progreso. Barrio Parque lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. Sp.America will meet San Isidro (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Barrio Parque will play against Echague (#3) and hope to secure a win.
The game between 15th ranked Riachuelo LR (2-13) and second ranked Villa S.Martin (11-4) in ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Resistencia beat Riachuelo LR 87-70. The best player for the winners was Sebastian Picton who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Villa S.Martin maintains second position with 11-4 record behind leader Dep Viedma. Newly promoted Riachuelo LR keeps the fifteenth place with 13 games lost. Villa S.Martin's next round opponent will be Salta Basket (#5) on the road. Riachuelo LR will play against Estudiantes T. (#4) and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 20: San Isidro was beaten by Echague on the road 82-76. Villa Mitre won against Rivadavia on its own court 79-64. CAO Ceres unfortunately lost to Estudiantes T. in a road game 91-99. Atenas recorded a loss to Lanus at home 73-82.
The most impressive performance of 20th round was 27 points and 10 rebounds by Justin Everett of LANUS.

Echague - San Isidro 82-76

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Echague (11-5) beat 12th ranked San Isidro (4-8) in Parana 82-76. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Echague made 23-of-27 charity shots (85.2 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by San Isidro helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities.
