La Liga Argentina Round 40: Estudiantes C. defeat Progreso in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An interesting game for Estudiantes C. (15-8) which hosted in Concordia 4th ranked Progreso (12-10). Second ranked Estudiantes C. managed to get a 12-point victory 60-48. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Progreso. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Federico Grenni (176-92, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording 19 points. Swingman Alvaro Chervo (193-99) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Gustavo Maranguello (190-83) replied with 9 points and 10 rebounds for Progreso. Estudiantes C. maintains second position with 15-8 record having 3 victories less than leader Dep Viedma, which they share with Ameghino. Progreso at the other side keeps the fourth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Lanus.
La Liga Argentina top team - Dep Viedma (17-5) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Parque Sur (6-14) in Concepcion de Urug. 92-56. Worth to mention a quality performance of point guard Pedro Franco (188-81) who helped to win the game recording 8 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals and Maximiliano Tabieres who added 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Dep Viedma's coach Guillermo Bogliacino felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Enzo Filipetti (201-1) responded with 6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Dep Viedma maintains first position with 17-5 record. Parque Sur lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 14 games lost.
A very close game took place in La Plata between GELP and Ciclista. Ninth ranked GELP (10-9) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Ciclista (10-11). GELP managed to escape with a 3-point win 77-74 in the fight for the seventh place. The winners were led by Pablo Alderete who scored that evening 30 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Even 12 points by Leandro Cerminato did not help to save the game for Ciclista. GELP moved-up to seventh place. Loser Ciclista keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost.

Other games in round 40 were not that significant. Atenas was beaten by Rocamora on the road 80-69. Lanus was destroyed by Quilmes MP on its own court 61-94. Rivadavia unfortunately lost to Estudiantes O. in Olavarria 62-73.
The most impressive performance of 40th round was 10 points and 9 rebounds by Martin Fagotti of Dep Viedma.



Rocamora - Atenas 80-69

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Rocamora (8-13) beat at home 10th ranked Atenas (9-12) 80-69 on Tuesday. They outrebounded Atenas 40-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by Guillermo Romero (198-95) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and Horacio Rigada supported him with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by naturalized Italian swingman Gianni Dubois (193-98) did not help to save the game for Atenas. Point guard Martin Percaz (179-93) added 17 points for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rocamora maintains twelfth position with 8-13 record, which they share with San Isidro. Loser Atenas keeps the tenth place with 12 games lost.

A very close game took place in La Plata between GELP and Ciclista. Ninth ranked GELP (10-9) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Ciclista (10-11). GELP managed to escape with a 3-point win 77-74 in the fight for the seventh place. GELP outrebounded Ciclista 35-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Pablo Alderete (198-93) who scored that evening 30 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) and point guard Carlos Gianella (181) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Even 12 points by Leandro Cerminato (201-98) did not help to save the game for Ciclista. Point guard Mateo Battistino (186-98) added 11 points for lost side. GELP moved-up to seventh place. Loser Ciclista keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost.

Lanus - Quilmes MP 61-94

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Lanus (12-10) was smashed by sixth ranked Quilmes MP (12-11) in Buenos Aires 94-61 on Tuesday. Quilmes MP dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Lanus' 38. The winners were led by American Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: OBU) who scored that evening 25 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Raul Pelorosso (178-94) supported him with 17 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Quilmes MP players scored in double figures. Even 10 points by American forward Justin Everett (206-96, college: Humboldt St.) did not help to save the game for Lanus. Mauricio Marin added 12 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Quilmes MP have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 12-11 record. Newly promoted Lanus dropped to the fourth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Del Progreso.

Rather predictable result when eleventh ranked Estudiantes O. (8-9) won against 14th ranked Rivadavia (4-18) in Olavarria 73-62 on Tuesday. Estudiantes O. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by swingman Elnes Bolling (193-91) who scored that evening 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Jeremias Sandrini (185-93, agency: BIG) supported him with 11 points and 7 assists. Four Estudiantes O. players scored in double figures. Estudiantes O.'s coach Marcelo Macias used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by power forward Estefano Simondi (201-96) did not help to save the game for Rivadavia. Forward Agustin Mas Delfino (194-97) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for lost side.
