LDD Round 11: Argentino hand first defeat to Comunicaciones

Comunicaciones (11-1) recorded its first loss in Junin on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by eleventh ranked Argentino (6-6) 72-62. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Comunicaciones. They outrebounded Comunicaciones 50-34 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Ezequiel Filipetti (200-1) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Guard Franco Montemagio (185-2) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Argentino's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Juan Bejar (186-1) produced 25 points for the guests. Argentino maintains eleventh place with 6-6 record, which they share with San Lorenzo. Comunicaciones at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Buenos Aires. Second ranked Boca Jrs (10-1) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Union (9-8) 70-68 on Tuesday evening. Manuel Rodriguez (203-2) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds. Juan Contegrand contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Cuban center Pedro Bombino (206-0) answered with 26 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for Union. Boca Jrs have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-1 record behind leader Comunicaciones. Union at the other side keeps the sixth position with eight games lost.
We should mention about the upset which took place in La Banda, where higher ranked Riachuelo LR (7-4) lost to nineteenth ranked Olimpico (2-10) in a road game 78-84 on Monday. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Riachuelo LR. It was a great evening for David Perez who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Mateo Corso responded with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Olimpico moved-up to seventeenth place. Loser Riachuelo LR keeps the eighth position with four games lost.

Other games of round 11 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Gimnasia was defeated by La Union in Formosa 97-80. San Lorenzo beat Obras at home 74-70. Quimsa destroyed Penarol on the opponent's court 92-68. San Martin outscored H.Americano in a home game 84-60.



La Union - Gimnasia 97-80

There was no surprise in Formosa where 17th ranked Gimnasia CR (2-11) was defeated by tenth ranked La Union (6-4) 97-80 on Monday. It was a great evening for point guard Agustin Sigel (165-2) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Matias Caire (188-99) helped adding 25 points. Guard Franco Ferraria (191-2) responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and center Leandro Fogel (201-0) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four La Union and five Gimnasia CR players scored in double figures. La Union have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place. Gimnasia CR lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the eighteenth position with 11 games lost.

Venezuelan power forward Fernando Fuenmayor (201-0) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks and Alejo Digon (195-99) scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mar del Plata where 15th ranked Penarol (4-9) was rolled over by sixteenth ranked Quimsa (4-7) 92-68 on Tuesday. Quimsa forced 23 Penarol turnovers and outrebounded them 35-22 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for swingman Diego Collomb (192-4) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 5 assists. Guard Francisco Corradi (187-3) helped adding 18 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Four Quimsa players scored in double figures. Franco Vinciguerra (186-2) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Lucas Gorosterrazu (197-98, agency: BIG) scored 15 points. Penarol's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Quimsa moved-up to fifteenth place. Penarol lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with nine games lost.
