La Liga Argentina Round 7: Ciclista defeat Quilmes MP

This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in La Liga Argentina and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was the first loss of Quilmes MP (4-1) in Mar del Plata on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Ciclista (3-2) 68-61. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Quilmes MP. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Manuel Lambrisca (192-1997) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Ignacio Varisco (202-2001) contributed with 10 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Tomas Nally (202-2002, agency: BIG) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds for Quilmes MP. Ciclista have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams. Quilmes MP at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with San Isidro and GEPU. Ciclista is looking forward to face league's leader Zarate Basket on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Quilmes MP will play against GELP and is hoping to win this game.
Sixteenth-ranked CAO Ceres (0-5) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Ameghino (5-1). The visitors from Villa Maria managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a great evening for point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Juan Luis Abeiro helped adding 10 points and 7 rebounds. Ameghino's coach Pablo Castro allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side point guard Manuel Alonso (195-1999, agency: BIG) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Ameghino have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. CAO Ceres at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Ameghino will play against Villa S.Martin (#14) in Resistencia in the next round which should be an easy win for them. CAO Ceres will play on the road against Tucuman in San Miguel de Tucuman and hopes to get finally their first victory.
Bottom-ranked Jachal is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to fifth ranked San Isidro (4-1) 87-69 on Monday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Federico Zezular who led the winners and scored 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks. Nicolas Gimenez came up with 17 points and 6 rebounds for Jachal in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Isidro have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Quilmes MP and GEPU. Loser Jachal still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Sarmiento R. and Pico FC. San Isidro will meet at home Colon SF (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Jachal will play against Libertad (#9) in Sunchales and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Independiente was beaten by Libertad on the road 80-74. Echague won against Salta Basket on its own court 77-69. Salta Basket managed to outperform Colon SF in a road game 107-100. Pergamino recorded a loss to Lanus at home 73-75. Pilar was defeated by Parque Sur on the opponent's court 88-70. Estudiantes C. beat GELP in a home game 83-82. Winless Pico FC was destroyed by Dep Viedma on the road 97-71.
The most impressive performance of 7th round was 11 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals by Facundo Gago of CAO Ceres.

Group North

Libertad - Independiente 80-74

No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked Libertad (3-2) beat 13th ranked Independiente (1-4) in Sunchales 80-74 on Sunday. Libertad outrebounded Independiente 37-22 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Estefano Simondi (201-1996) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. The former international swingman Julian Eydallin (195-2000) accounted for 15 points and 9 assists for the winning side. Libertad's coach Sebastian Porta used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Emiliano Correa (188-1991) came up with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and forward Lucio Castellani (196-1994) added 14 points respectively for Independiente in the defeat. Libertad moved-up to third place, which they share with 5 other teams. Independiente lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Pilar. Libertad will meet at home Jachal (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Independiente will have a break next round.

Rather expected game when 11th ranked Salta Basket (2-3) lost to ninth ranked Echague (3-1) in Parana 69-77 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for guard Federico Gonzalez (183-1988) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Bautista Fernandez (195-2001) accounted for 19 points for the winning side. Guard Jara Agustin (-1998) came up with 24 points and 7 rebounds and Brazilian center Adriano Alves (210-1995) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Salta Basket in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Echague moved-up to fifth place. Loser Salta Basket keeps the eleventh position with three games lost. They share it with Dep Viedma. Echague will meet Rivadavia (#8) on the road in the next round. Salta Basket will play against Dep Norte and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Power forward Santiago Bruera (206-1998, college: FAU, agency: BIG) accounted for 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Lanus' coach Sebastian Saborido used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Federico Gobetti (192-1999) came up with 22 points and 5 rebounds and Carlos Baez (-1993) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Pergamino in the defeat. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Taurus Adams II (201-1998, college: S.Connecticut) who led the winners and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds. American-Guinea-Bissau point guard Perry Petty (185-1988, college: UTRGV) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Petty is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Parque Sur's coach Ivan Paolazzi used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Franco Smaniotti (194-2000) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and British forward Deji Adekunle (208-1992, college: Keiser, agency: Players Group) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Pilar in the defeat. Parque Sur moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lanus and Tucuman. Newly promoted Pilar dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Independiente.
