Pablo Martinez
Power forward Pablo Martinez (197-PF-1982) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for CAO Ceres, receiving a Hoops Agents La Liga Argentina Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 40-year old player was the main contributor (29 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Independiente (1-5) 86-80. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings in Conferencia Norte. CAO Ceres is placed at 13th position in Argentinian La Liga Argentina. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 5 games and recorded just one victory. In the team's last game Martinez had a remarkable 81.8% from 2-point range. It's his second year at CAO Ceres and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Pablo Martinez has solid league stats. He is in league's top in assists (3rd best: 1.3apg) and averages impressive 55.0% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was another CAO Ceres' star - young Facundo Gago (178-PG-1996). Gago had a very good evening with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. It was enough for CAO Ceres to edge Independiente (1-5) 86-80. Similarly like above, the game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the top position in Conferencia Norte. But CAO Ceres managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 13th place. 5 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory CAO Ceres managed to get this year. Gago is a newcomer at CAO Ceres, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was forward Facundo Sanz (197-F-1996, agency: BIG) of Del Progreso (#8). Sanz scored 15 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Sanz's great performance Del Progreso lost 80-82 to the league's current leader Zarate Basket (#1, 5-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Del Progreso needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in Conferencia Sur. Their record is 2 victories and 1 lost game. Sanz has a great season in Argentina. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.7ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 11.0rpg (3rd best).
Other top performing players last week:
4. Santiago Ibarra (198-F-1998) of Pergamino - 27 points and 4 rebounds
5. Jose Muruaga (188-G-1984) of Tucuman - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Daniel Tabbia (195-G/F-1993) of Independiente - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Jamaal Levy (206-F/C-1983) of Villa Mitre - 10 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Gustavo Maranguello (190-G/F-1983) of Del Progreso - 15 points and 13 rebounds
9. Lisandro Quinteros (187-G-1995) of Colon SF - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists
10. Ricardo Fernandez (190-SF-1996) of Racing - 18 points and 2 assists
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
