LDD Round 10 (Regular Season): Gimnasia defeat Zarate in the closest game of the week

Sixteenth-ranked Zarate (3-6) gave a tough game to first ranked Gimnasia CR (10-1) in Comodoro Rivadavia on Wednesday. Gimnasia CR managed to secure only one-point victory 83-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Gimnasia forced 19 Zarate turnovers and had a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) chipped in 32 points during the contest. Gimnasia CR's coach Gustavo Sapochnik used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side guard Sahir Abdala (185-2005) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Gimnasia maintains first position with 10-1 record. Newly promoted Zarate dropped to the seventeenth place with six games lost. They share the position with La Union. Gimnasia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Zarate will play at home against Olimpico (#20) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Important game to mention about took place in Mercedes. Seventh ranked Comunicaciones (7-4) saved a 3-point victory at home edging higher ranked Ferro (8-3) 61-58 on Saturday evening. Point guard Agustin Passone (180-2003) notched 13 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Agustin Bruner supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Even 13 points and 8 rebounds by center Augusto Roveres (207-2003) did not help to save the game for Ferro. Comunicaciones have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Ferro at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Comunicaciones will play against Riachuelo (#6) in La Rioja in the next round. Ferro will play at home against Platense and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Obera (8-2) against fifth ranked Boca Jrs (8-4) on Monday night. Host Obera was defeated by Boca Jrs in a tough game in Obera 74-82. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Obera. Nicolas Stenta fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Kelvin Ramirez produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Boca Jrs have a solid four-game winning streak. Boca Jrs. moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Obera keeps the second position with two games lost. Boca Jrs. will meet at home Regatas (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Obera will play against Independ.O. (#9) in Olivia and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Platense lost to Obera on the opponent's court 71-89. Regatas unfortunately lost to Boca Jrs. in a home game 90-92. Argentino recorded a loss to Riachuelo on the road 71-86. Winless Olimpico was crushed by Comunicaciones on its own court 79-98. Zarate was smashed by Union in Santa Fe 100-67. Regatas was destroyed by Platense at home 59-80. Argentino unfortunately lost to Quimsa on the opponent's court 64-73. Obras managed to beat La Union in a home game 82-69. San Martin was defeated by Quimsa on the road 71-65. San Lorenzo beat La Union on its own court 81-76. Penarol won against Olimpico in Mar del Plata 90-75. Independ.O. unfortunately lost to Comunicaciones at home 77-81. San Martin was rolled over Riachuelo on the opponent's court 57-91. Independ.O. defeated Penarol in a home game 79-72. Regatas was beaten by Zarate on the road 92-81. Obras destroyed Regatas on its own court 95-57. San Lorenzo unfortunately lost to Platense in Florida 67-85. La Union recorded a loss to Ferro at home 70-78. Riachuelo was defeated by Boca Jrs. on the opponent's court 78-72. Penarol beat Riachuelo in a home game 78-71.




Obera - Platense 89-71

Very expected game when 18th ranked Platense (4-7) was defeated on the road by second ranked Obera (8-2) 89-71 on Saturday. Paraguayan power forward Hugo Caballero (190-2004) fired 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Kelvin Ramirez (204-2002) chipped in 25 points and 7 rebounds. Four Obera players scored in double figures. Obera's coach Lucas Gornatti allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezuelan point guard Anthoan Urbina (183-2005) produced 26 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and Venezuelan Henyerberth Mata (201-2005) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side.
