La Liga Argentina Round 17 (Regular Season): GELP beat Ameghino by two after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 17 in the La Liga Argentina took place in La Plata. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Ameghino (7-8) to fifth ranked GELP (8-6) 73-71 on Thursday evening. Guard Juan Lancieri (189-1995) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. point guard Alan Moreno (185-1997, agency: BIG) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Pablo Osores (194-1986) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Ameghino. Ameghino's coach Pablo Castro rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Important game to mention about took place in Rocamora. Seventh ranked Racing A. (7-2) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 17th ranked Rocamora (3-10) 83-82 on Thursday evening. Power forward Matias Nunez (202-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Luciano Silva chipped in 23 points. Federico Repetti responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Racing A. moved-up to sixth place. Rocamora lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with ten games lost. Racing A. will play against La Union (#11) in Colon in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rocamora will play at home against Lanus (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Mar del Plata between Villa Mitre and Quilmes MP. Fifteenth ranked Villa Mitre (5-7) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Quilmes MP (5-9). Villa Mitre managed to escape with a 1-point win 68-67 in the game for the twelfth place. Jano Martinez nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists for the winning side. Luis Cequeira came up with a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for Quilmes MP in the defeat. Quilmes MP's coach Luis Fernandez tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Villa Mitre moved-up to twelfth place. Quilmes MP lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Villa Mitre will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quilmes MP will play against Dep Viedma (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 17: Lanus was beaten by La Union on the road 100-97. Provincial lost to Pilar on its own court 58-71. Barrio Parque was outscored by Montmartre in Catamarca 72-96. U.Mar del Plata recorded a loss to Dep Viedma at home 75-77. Ciclista was crushed by Racing on the opponent's court 70-47. Echague beat Rivadavia in a home game 78-66. Jachal was destroyed by Suardi on the road 92-63. Colon unfortunately lost to GEPU on its own court 66-82.
The most impressive performance of 17th round was 15 points and 10 rebounds by Matias Borsatti of GEPU.



Quilmes MP - Villa Mitre 67-68

A very close game took place in Mar del Plata between Villa Mitre and Quilmes MP. Fifteenth ranked Villa Mitre (5-7) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Quilmes MP (5-9). Villa Mitre managed to escape with a 1-point win 68-67 in the game for the twelfth place. Villa Mitre dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Quilmes MP's 34. They outrebounded Quilmes MP 49-38 including 17 on the offensive glass. There was a small surprise when tenth ranked La Union (6-8) edged 8th ranked Lanus (6-5) in Colon 100-97 on Thursday. La Union made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. La Union outrebounded Lanus 45-27 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Leandro Tabbia (195-1993) nailed 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Pablo Bilat (181-1995) accounted for 26 points and 5 rebounds. Joaquin Rios (193-1995) came up with 22 points and swingman Lorenzo Capponi (191-1994) added 25 points respectively for Lanus in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory La Union went down to eleventh position due to points difference. Loser Lanus keeps the eighth place with five games lost. They share the position with H.Americano and San Isidro. La Union will meet at home higher ranked Racing A. (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lanus will play against Rocamora and hope to secure a win.

Montmartre's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Ramiro Ledesma (192-2000) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and guard Santiago Andrione (175-2003) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Barrio Parque in the defeat.
