La Liga Round 15 (Regular Season): Platense beat Obras by three after a very close game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Eighth-ranked Obras (7-4) was very close to win a game against third ranked Platense (11-3) in Florida on Friday. Platense managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. Platense dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Obras' 32 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a good game for point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 9 assists. The former international Eric Flor (190-1993) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Armenian-American guard Andre Spight (190-1995, college: N.Colorado, agency: Helping Ballers) answered with 31 points and 7 assists for Obras. Platense have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 11-3 record behind leader Quimsa. Obras lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Platense are looking forward to face Gimnasia (#12) in Comodoro Rivadavia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Obras will play on the road against the league's leader Quimsa in Santiado del Estero and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between San Martin (8-7) and Ferro (5-9), which took place in Buenos Aires. Higher ranked San Martin lost to fifteenth ranked Ferro in a road game 71-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of San Martin. It was a great evening for point guard Tomas Spano (183-1998) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 5 rebounds. Damian Tintorelli helped adding 14 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Carlos Buendia (177-1995) with 21 points. Ferro maintains fifteenth place with 5-9 record. San Martin at the other side dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Another upset was a game between San Lorenzo (10-5) and Zarate (7-6), which took place in Almagro. 4th placed San Lorenzo lost at home to twelfth ranked Zarate 78-82 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for Agustin Brocal who led the winners and scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. Kevin Hernandez came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for San Lorenzo in the defeat. Zarate moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Obera. Loser San Lorenzo dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Zarate will meet Obera (#10) on the road in the next round. San Lorenzo will play against Argentino (#20) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Comunicaciones was beaten by Penarol on the road 92-76. Argentino lost to Instituto on its own court 56-60. Comunicaciones unfortunately lost to Boca in Buenos Aires 80-95.




Penarol - Comunicaciones 92-76

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eighteenth ranked Penarol (4-10) beat 17th ranked Comunicaciones (4-12) in Mar del Plata 92-76 on Wednesday. Penarol outrebounded Comunicaciones 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Joaquin Valinotti (185-1998) who led the winners and scored 24 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international Tomas Monacchi (198-1997) accounted for 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Penarol players scored in double figures.
