LDD Round 13 (Regular Season): Riachuelo defeat Obera in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 13 in the LDD took place in Obera. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed Obera (9-4) to eighth ranked Riachuelo (9-5) 79-78 on Monday evening. Strangely Obera outrebounded Riachuelo 46-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. Guard Mateo Corso (185-2003) stepped up and scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and Juan Rodriguez chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side forward Alejo Azpilicueta (201-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. Riachuelo moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Independ.O. Defending champion Obera dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Riachuelo is looking forward to face Regatas (#17) in Corrientes in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Obera will play at home against Obras (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Florida. Fourteenth ranked Platense (6-8) saved a 1-point victory at home edging higher ranked Obras (6-6) 95-94 on Friday evening. Swingman Mariano Goicoechea (195-2004) nailed 36 points (!!!) for the winning side and Santino Mazzucchelli accounted for 20 points and 10 rebounds. Swingman Lautaro Barrios (195-2004) came up with 24 points and 7 rebounds for Obras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Platense moved-up to eleventh place. Obras at the other side keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Platense will play against Quimsa (#16) in Santiago del Estero in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Obras will play on the road against Obera (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Mar del Plata between Penarol and Comunicaciones. Sixteenth ranked Penarol (5-8) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Comunicaciones (9-6). Penarol managed to escape with a 2-point win 73-71 on Tuesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Nicolas Chiaraviglio fired 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Penarol's coach Tomas Sirochinsky used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Marcos Panozzo produced 17 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Penarol moved-up to fourteenth place. Loser Comunicaciones dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: bottom-ranked San Martin lost to Argentino on the opponent's court 62-66. Argentino was outscored by Instituto in a home game 53-80. Bottom-ranked San Martin was rolled over Ferro on the road 96-59. San Lorenzo crushed Zarate on its own court 75-54. Comunicaciones was beaten by Boca Jrs. in Buenos Aires 89-75.




Argentino - San Martin 66-62

Very expected game in Junin where 20th ranked San Martin (1-13) was defeated by tenth ranked Argentino (6-7) 66-62 on Monday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) fired 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Santiago Capelli (180-2005) chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Argentino players scored in double figures. Center Lorenzo Benay (203-2004) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Franco Alegre (176-2003) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Argentino maintains tenth place with 6-7 record. San Martin lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Argentino will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Martin will play against San Lorenzo (#12) in Almagra and hope to win that game.

Rather predictable result in Junin where eighth ranked Instituto (9-3) smashed 10th ranked Argentino (6-7) 80-53 on Wednesday. Instituto dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Argentino's 26. Point guard Ignacio Beltramino (179) fired 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Fausto Moussa (198-2004) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds and Leonel Singh added 14 points respectively for lost side. Argentino's coach Juan Martin gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Instituto have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Argentino keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. Instituto will meet at home La Union (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Argentino will have a break next round.

Not a big story in a game in Buenos Aires where 20th ranked San Martin (1-13) was rolled over by second ranked Ferro (11-4) 96-59 on Wednesday. Ferro forced 22 San Martin turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. Facundo Wolinsky fired 28 points for the winners. Salvador Baracat chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Ferro's coach Jonathan Laino felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gaston Lecca produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and Marcos Solari added 13 points respectively for lost side. Ferro maintains second place with 11-4 record having just one point less than leader Gimnasia. San Martin lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Jeronimo Massarini produced 9 points and Facundo Mestre added 11 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Lorenzo moved-up to twelfth place.
